      Hi All,

I've just joined up today.. I have Hyperacusis and Tinnitus. I joined because just yesterday, I started getting pressure in my head for the first time in addition to the H and T I've had since a stupid 10-minute loud music incident with an Ipod Shuffle in 2011. Of late, the H&T are getting much worse for no apparent reason, and so now this pressure has presented as a result. I was diagnosed last week by a good/reputable specialist here in Brisbane Australia, and he's about to introduce me to TRT (or Neuromonics? - I'm not quite sure), but what I wanted to ask you all about was the sounds of tinnitus. Is there a database perhaps of mp3 files anywhere, where I could listen and see if my sound is there?

I know we're all different, but I'm trying to establish exactly what mine is (the Specialist's system seems to only select between 6 kHz and 8 kHz, and mine seems to be in between, so we haven't pinpointed it yet). Anyway, I'm a high-pitched cricket/cicada insect constant sound, almost identical to Jeff - the second guy in on TinnitusHub's "Sounds of Tinnitus" video on YouTube! Mine's a fraction higher than his, but very close, but still, what frequency would I tell the specialist to give him at least a ballpark idea?

I do apologise if it's a daft question. Man, having T and H is the pits. I should add that I've been a fulltime pro stage guitar player for 30 years (not the cause of the problem as I was perfect until that fateful night with the Ipod Shuffle when everything changed, and also we play very low volume on stage), and if I can't work out a useful approach to things, even though I wear -25db custom-moulded ear plugs, I'm going to have to throw in the towel. :-/

      Thanks V Much,
      StuMur

      Hi @StuMur , Welcome.

For some general information on Tinnitus and "H", I would suggest you read the following by @Michael Leigh:
      https://www.tinnitustalk.com/threads/tinnitus-a-personal-view.18668/
      https://www.tinnitustalk.com/threads/hyperacusis-as-i-see-it.19174/

To figure out how to describe your pitches, I would suggest trying the following sites:

      http://www.szynalski.com/tone-generator/

will let you generate specific frequencies, and

      https://www.soundrelief.com/tinnitus/sounds-tinnitus/

has other sounds, if yours, like many of ours, include sounds along with pitches.

Thanks very much Kolisar. Those two external websites were helpful, though identifying my T sound is proving extremely difficult. I'll keep trying - I'm sure I'll get the hang of it, sadly. :-/

Here's a site where you can pitch match your T.

Thanks very much GregCA - that thing is very helpful.. Geez, how hard is it though, picking notes out that you imagine your ears are creating..? I can't distinguish one sound in my head from the other. Hurting also with ear pain listening to these high pitched tones.. hyperA kicking in as always. Might rest for a bit.

It's indeed quite difficult to pinpoint our T because it often isn't just a simple tone, although we are asked to estimate it as such. Then there is the typical octave confusion throwing a wrench into the process.
      Still, that's all we have.
