I keep waiting and waiting for habituation and it doesn't happen. I am so tired of distraction distraction distraction.

On a positive note for other sufferers, the H is pretty manageable. I know what triggers it and can make it go away pretty easily so 98% of the time H is pretty much gone.

I am afraid to take any anti depression pills because I'm afraid it will make it worse.

I have pretty bad depression and anxiety. I drink wine at night to go to sleep OR a benzo. Never together and no I don't take too many benzo's. If I don't drink wine I take a .25 or 2.

My T is very high pitch and not super loud but it is constantly going higher and lower so it's not constant at all. The other ear gets T a little too but not too bad. I have a low pitch too but that doesn't bother me too much. It's the super high pitch that comes through every few minutes.

      Things are just bad.

Hi @Marie79 perhaps it might be time to see your ENT Dr for another review on your condition? Are you using sound enrichment at night, I don't mean to cover-up or masked the tinnitus. Just low non intrusive sound from a sound machine?

Antidepressants like Amitryptaline or nortryptaline are two AD meds that can help tinnitus .
A low dose like 20-50mg will help you sleep and 75mg upwards for depression....have a chat with your doctor and don't suffer in silence ( silly sentence as we don't have silence ) ...lots of love glynis

What can an ENT do? So far I've been to several and they don't or can't do anything.

@Marie79 You say the tinnitus has got worse and I believe it's a good idea to let ENT do tests. If everything comes back normal they can refer you to a Hearing Therapsist for tinnitus management.
      It is just a suggestion.
When tinnitus gets worse there's usually a reason and I think it's best to get checked out and be referred to a Hearing therapist.

Thankyou for this. From my experience in US the hearing specialists might be audiologists? I've never seen an ENT or audiologist that had any help for T other than therapy which I've done. Have you had any other experience?

If your up to date tests are ok then you need to be seen by audiology to see if maskers or hearing aids can be provided and TRT or CBT if can get it.
Have you had a MRI @Marie79 ?lots of love glynis

Unfortunately it seems habituation with multi-pitched tinnitus is a much more difficult process than a single pitch. I have a ringing in my right ear that sounds like Morse-code at two different pitches, and some days it still drives me insane. Especially because it doesn't seem to have a specific pattern.

If you are looking at taking medication, the best medication that can be prescribed to you would be from an ENT, as they will have the greatest understanding of the side effects of the medication they are prescribing and how they would affect your ears. That being said, I know a lot of ENT's generally do not deal with anxiety, and will refer you to your primary care physician for that sort of stuff. If you explain your circumstance to an ENT or nurse practitioner, they might be able to give you good advice and point you in the right direction.

I live in the UK @Mari79 and have had good treatment at ENT and been under the care of a Hearing Therapist for many years. I have had two courses of TRT treatment that each lasted 2 years, in the twenty years that I have had tinnitus. At the moment I wear white noise generators which helps a lot when my tinnitus is intrusive. I also take clonazepam when needed but haven't for quite a while.

In 2008 my tinnitus increased to excruciating levels and that's when I returned to ENT and started my 2nd course of TRT treatment. My tinnitus ranges from: complete silence, mild, moderate, severe and very severe. However, it rarely reaches very severe levels now.

Some audiologists are also trained as Hearing Therapists and practice tinnitus management which is what I believe you need. As I have previously said: when tinnitus gets worse, there is usually a reason for it and I think you should be seen at ENT, so tests can be carried out on your auditory system, to find out the cause. As Glynis has mentioned. White noise generators can be useful and also hearing aid/s. Tinnitus counselling can also be beneficial.

I think you should pursue this route rather than think nothing can be done to help you, because I don't believe this is the case.

If you haven't read my post: Tinnitus, A Personal View, then I think that you might find it helpful. It explains different treatments and coping methods for tinnitus. The link is below.

Marie habituation is a distraction where you think of something else or get involved with others and dont pay attention to your T. The less you pay attention to your T the more you are habituating. I sometimes go all day without hearing it and then sit down to watch TV and bam there it is loud as ever with the super high pitch. I guess after awhile you just dont give a shit... But people who have habituate still hear their T at time but dont have a negative responce to it. Oh and by the way you are a very attractive young lady !!!!!!! You will do fine with time and a good mind set... GO bless !!!!!
