My spelling will be off due to shaky hands

I am having a panic attack because of tinnitus and I keep having paranoid thoughts about the cause of this spike like "maybe it was the bitter espresso yesterday"

      Hi Frenger,

You've had tinnitus since 2010? The spike started yesterday? How well had you adjusted (habituated) to your tinnitus before this spike?

If nothing unusual has happened (e.g. sudden loud noises or taking potentially ototoxic medications), I would not worry too much yet. Spikes are very common here and most of the times go away.

Welcome to TT, we're a friendly bunch!

Edit. Hauska tavata! Olin yllä kamalan epäkohtelias :/

The panic is only going to make it worse Frenger and the louder it gets the more panic you'll have and the more panic you have the louder and louder it will get,it's a vicious circle so try to calm yourself whatever way possible and give it some time, spikes happen and I'm sure it will pass.

Note for the English speaking folks: as everyone knows, Tinnitus Talk is an English-only board, but in this case I'm making an exception since the original poster is clearly in distress and happens to speak my mother tongue. I will ask them to post an update in English later on (if they are able).

I took ativan to calm me down initially 2months ago. But now it is the ativan causing me awful panic. The panic attacks I am experiencing is drug induced. I hope to be detoxed asap.

I talked to my boyfriend's mother, who is a nurse, and she really helped me calm down. I am feeling better now :) For me, spikes occur very rarely.

I made an appointment to get my ears cleaned but because I took seroquel at 6 AM, I overslept and missed the appointment. The nurse told me to use softening drops in my ears, are they safe? Also I'm a bit worried about syringing...

Thank you Markku for being so helpful!

      Fantastic news!

I've used Remo-Wax (probably the most popular ear wax softening product here, you should know it as you're Finnish too).

Nowadays I regularly apply Ceridal Lipolotion (Finnish product as well) to my ears; I haven't had issues with ear wax after starting using that. I use it twice a week. That's enough for maintenance.

Indeed I got my tinnitus from syringing but it is rare. There are generally three ways to remove ear wax: irrigation (syringing), suction and curettage. I'd probably opt for the latter (when carried out by a skilled doctor) but all of them have apparently resulted in chronic tinnitus in some cases.

You might have luck with the Remo-Wax - I hear that sometimes it alone is enough to make the wax come out.

Keep us updated whichever way you'll end up going!

Take care, I hope it works out well :)

      Markku
