I got Tinnitus a month ago. I was doing Ok finally. Then my daughter got a ear infection that I caught also. I only had Tinnitus in my right ear but now my entire head is ringing really loud. I had the T in my right side only but my left ear is the one that got infected. The doctor has me on Amoxicilian. He also told me to take Tylenol cold and sinus medicine. I feel like I'm under water and muted. It's terrible. I am nervous to take the Tylenol cold and sinus med. What should I do? The doctor said I should take it to help clear me out. Please Help!!!

Hi @Robert44 -- your doctor is right that likely Tylenol cold and sinus will help relieve the symptoms of an ear infection and sinus infection in the short term. Most likely those symptoms will resolve over the next few weeks and things will return back to normal. Do you know what caused your tinnitus in your right ear that started a month ago? For me I got tinnitus with an ear infection that felt like it was my whole head while in the ear infection but as it cleared up I was left with just a soft ringing/hissing in my left ear, rarely acting up in the right ear. It was a rough few months when it started but I consider myself habituated now.

      Best of luck to you!

thanks for your reply....Yes I got it from going to a loud concert. My life has totally changed since. I can't stop thinking about this. I was just starting to do a little better when this ear infection popped up. Now it's louder than ever.

You can't catch ear infections from other people. Anyway, do you get swimmers ear? I suggest wearing ear plugs when you bathe and also try olive oil with some tea tree oil should help fix it. Good luck. Is it middle ear, as the olive oil and tea tree can't work for a middle ear infection and I wouldn't do it for a middle ear infection.

@Robert44 I would definitely do what the doctors tell you to do. Don't mess with anything in the ear canal as it's easy to screw up yourself and not a lot of reward to do anyway. If there is something that needs to come out, your ENT will be able to do it safely. As an aside I also got my ear infection about a week after my son had a double ear infection. It was my first one since I was a child so it's hard to believe that it was just a coincidence that I got mine shortly after being exposed to his ear infection. Daycare germs are the worst... :)

      Hey Robert whats up...

In my own experience with sometimes when you get ear infections, the T does not necessarily spikes, but it is just the congestion and mild temporary hearing loss that make it sound louder. Once your infection gets better your T will come back to normal levels.

Well first things first... Take care of the ear infection exactly as your doctor indicated. It's pretty much the only you can do at the moment.

Secondly you can look up clinical trials for tinnitus. You are probably a candidate for AM-101 since your tinnitus is very early. http://www.tinnitus-study.info/

But you really do have to take care of this infection first, since people with ongoing infections are not eligible.

      Hope this Helps.....

Hi, I need to tell my story so that you understand what's going on. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this. I went to a loud concert about a month ago and go T in my right ear. Never went away. Went on Prednisone didn't help. stayed home from work for two weeks. Was literally crying and shaking in bed. Chest caving in. Wanting to end my life. Went to the ENT was told there's no cure. Saw a Tinnitus specialist who was very nice but I also found out there was no cure. Have been on the internet since reading about this. Finally after about 3 weeks I started getting used to it during the day. Still couldn't sleep. Bought a speaker pillow which helped me sleep. Was just starting to feel like I could get through this. Sorry for this long post......

Then my daughter got sick and came down with an ear infection. Soon after everyone in m family got sick and had an ear infection. I got the ear infection on my left side. Remember I had the t on the right side. I went to one of those walk in clinics since it was the weekend and the doctor ( n0t an ENT regular internist) told me that my ear was red (left ear) and put me on the amoxicillin . He also told me to take Tylenol Cold and Sinus to help clear me up. At this point I was feeling like I'm underwater. My whole head feels muted. I started taking the Amoxicillin. The left ear started to feel better as far as the pain goes. This infection in my left ear also caused ringing now in my left ear. I had read on this forum that people got T from ear infections so I was REALLY concerned that this would happen to me. Couldn't believe that now I might have it in my left ear also. VERY DISTRESSED. Just when I was getting used to it in the right. Then the ringing in the left went down a little.

I still at this point didn't take the Tylenol cold and sinus cause I was worried this might cause more ringing. Then I decided to take it since I have this muted underwater feeling. I'd say after bout 2 hours the ringing got worse in my left ear. Here I am now the 3rd. day into this . Just woke up and the left ear is worse than ever. Even worse than the initial T I have in the right ear. I still have that underwater muted feeling. The others in my family do not have the ringing from the infection. I haven't taken the Tylenol since yesterday morning at 11. am. I'm going to eat some breakfast and take the Amoxicillin.

Should I take the Tylenol Cold and Sinus? I'm worried that it might make everything worse. Maybe it will help and clear me out and help with the ringing on the left side. I am out of my mind worried bout this. PLEASE HELP. This has takin over my life. I'm not the same person I was before. I have no motivation .All I think about is this T. I was actually doing better then this happen to me which started the T on my left side. The ringing on the left side is worse than the initial T on the Right side. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks to all..... Desperate

@Robert44 the exact same thing is happening to me right now, I have my left ear infected, since last week, I hear muffled sounds as if I'm underwater (btw that's because you do have fluids in the inner ear) I even perforated my eardrum (blood and pain), the worst part is that in that ear, I already had T and now it's worse, but my right ear has a significant hearing loss due to an old accident when I was a kid (also perforated eardrums involved) apparently I have vulnerable ears, I am super careful with my ears, I avoid loud environments, don't longer listen to music with earbuds, and if I have to, I play it very low, I avoid pools, and still, got sick of the ear. :( :( my advice, is to keep on your Amox treatment, stop taking NSAID pain killers, like Aspirin or Ibuprofen, get Sudafed for the congestion, keep going to your ENT and last but not least, keep writing here, or read around here, it helps me in the mean time. My doctor told me I'm supposed to get my hearing back once the ears heal completely, that takes weeks or even months. So hang in there and stay calm, use a Tinnitus Masker (there's tons of apps for smartphones) keep us posted

Hi Cameovan, I had that ear infection about 3 months ago. It since has cleared up. The ringing in that ear did finally go away. I still have T due to loud noise exposure in my right ear. Good luck to you.
