I would take the 500 million. Use 400 million to develop a cure for tinnitus and other diseases and then use 99 million to spread awareness of Bible prophecies that prove the Bible is 100% true and keep the last 1 million for my retirement.

Are you kidding me?!? If I won the lottery tomorrow I wouldn’t even celebrate for a second. It would be an entirely hollow experience. If this condition doesn’t prove that health is the most valuable thing you have then clearly you don’t have it bad enough.

Ok fair enough. Only proofs are in maths. I would raise awareness of the amazing evidence that the prophecies of Daniel and the Apocalypse correctly describe the rise and fall of all world empires from neo Babylon through to today. Isaac Newton tried to do the same thing in his book entitled "Daniel and the Apocalypse".

In this book he states it is so obvious that if you explain these prophecies to any rationally minded person that they would certainly accept the Bible as true and come to know the Lord Jesus Christ.

Well, if I could just win the current Mega Millions haul of over $1B, or the Powerball which is closing in on $500M, then I would know what it feels like, and I could make a more educated guess as to my preference. Universe, are you listening??? -- In all seriousness however, I'd take silence over any amount of money in a heartbeat.

LA is not exclusively inhabited by the rich. The poverty rate is higher than average in the U.S. at 19.5 percent and it’s a very high cost of living area. Though out of curiosity I checked the poverty rate in London and it’s 27 percent. @coffee_girl should do a multi-city money drop with her hypothetical money. :)

Make sure you wear ear protection when you’re dumping that cash!

Wouldn't it make you feel better to give the money to the hard-working people (otherwise they wouldn't be "loaded", right?), than to give it to the people who never bothered to get educated or never bothered to help others (by being gainfully employed)?

"You know who could really use some extra cash? People who are already loaded!" -Tinnitus Talk, 2018

TIL I also learned from our loving community that if you don't have a lot of money, you aren't hardworking and are uneducated. If you're working class or below your story is all the same! Your suffering is all your fault! You deserve your place and will receive no help because you are lazy and dumb...

...on a support forum, about an invisible disability, where some cannot work and others are job restricted, where est. 30% of us don't have enough money to donate to research.

      ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I would buy my parents a big house, I would donate a large chunk to the orphanages in my country, I will buy my puppy a big house just for her =]. I will also buy my maid a washer/dryer pamphlet because she keeps washing all my clothes by hand and it is making them like cardboard.

The question is not about "who could really use the cash" - the question is about who had earned the right to have the cash. By definition it is the people who had actually earned some cash of their own. So any extra cash ought to go to them. If they think that they don't need any more cash, they can always donate it to whoever they want.
You earn money by generating value (=helping the people who trade with you, as they get more from the transaction than what they pay you). So your lifetime earnings measure your lifetime contribution. I guess this approach to measuring one's contribution ignores the things like unpaid work around the house, but surely this would not account for a significant amount. Besides, most of the people who work (and have a good income) perform the same chores, so most of it will cancel out.
Something like 10% of the population have an intelligence that won't allow them to get a good education. They never had a choice - it is very tragic. If someone is not part of that group, and lives in a country like the United States, I don't see what excuse they have. In the United States, you can borrow the money for your education (so lack of money is not a good excuse). You can also get an education as a mature student (so being dumb when one is young is not a good excuse). What other excuses are there? And c'mon - the students are enjoying themselves and their youth, without thinking about their future - THAT is the most common reason for people not doing well and for most of that misery. They traded their future for that fun - it was their choice.

Nobody said they were dumb or lazy. They made some choices that must have been right for them, but now that they made that choice, it is very unfair when they turn around and try to force the people who paid for their future with their youth to do favours for them. Am I going to get my youth back? No. I am ok with that, but if they get some future at my expense (even after they chose not to have a future), that is profoundly unfair To ME. Can you see where I am coming from?

Not only would I forego 500 million dollars, but I would give up all my money right now plus 10 years shaved off my life if it meant I'd have healthy hearing again, even if the remaining time I would have left after deducting 10 years is a year, month, week, or day. I could so so much in a day with healthy hearing. I would cherish it, and I would die content and probably even happy.

What good would the money be if you couldn’t enjoy it? I suppose it would be good for blowing your nose and drying your tears with $100 bills when you get a spike or increase in volume, as we know there’s no guarantee that your tinnitus won’t increase no matter how cautious you are being.

There is a lot of good that amount of money good do for people but I would take having my tinnitus completely gone.
