I voted no but I knew that really loud sounds such as concerts, listening to loud music through headphones, gunshots, etc. could cause tinnitus before actually developing it. However, I did not know how quickly hearing damage could add up and how loud the world in general is (hair dryers, vacuumers, mixers, traffic, etc). Most importantly, I didn't know how loud and eventually debilitating tinnitus could be. I think it's very harmful to stress that e.g. going to clubs can cause hearing loss or make you deaf because as long as you don't notice any hearing loss you might think you're fine when you're actually not. And I definitely didn't know anything about hidden hearing loss or hyperacusis before developing tinnitus.

@Autumnly, I agree with all of the above. What I never knew was that tinnitus could embed and become a lasting condition. Had I have known this, particularly early on in life I'd have been much more cautious.

@Autumnly @Turner Did your ears ever rang temporarily before onset? Mine didn't.

I’m always so surprised when people say they’ve never experienced fleeting tinnitus! Even as a child I’d have fleeting tinnitus from time to time and knew that it was called tinnitus. I was never worried about it as it would go away after a couple of seconds. However, I never experienced tinnitus after going to a club or party.

Do you mean was I warned? The answer is yes. Pretty bad after a few concerts back in the day but it always subsided. I just thought it was a part of life.

I knew nothing about sound guidelines. I always thought that the only way to damage your hearing is to damage your eardrums. Little did I know!
