- Noise Induce ( loud music )
Hi Guys
I need some feedback and get some hope.
I have been experiencing a relapse since JUNE 2016 . Almost 6 month now.
Here is my success story and relapse .
I am 45 Y old, male.
I got my 1st T in june 2008 . Very high pitch , loud . I was completely desperate for 14 month . Tried everything possible ....even Am 101 .
I had some hearing loss in high frequencies 4000 – 6000 – 8000 and above . Approx 25/30 DB ) . I listened loud music all my life . like many of us didn't know anything about T .
One day in 2009 I decided to go back to my life and withdraw from all medication ( klonopine , ssri ) and started to use hearing aids with a very gentle white noise and white noise fonly or sleeping . It was a long road but I succeeded . I started to go out again , holidays , social life . I got my life back for 6 years . I wasn't looking for cure and T was part of my life . Hearing aids was VERY helpful .
However , I was too confident , or I forgot myself during the last 6 years . I always have some ears protections , but sometimes only small cottons to protect my ears
So for all new suffers , don't desperate . It takes time but at the end of the road there is light.
Don't forget to protect your ears in loud places!
In June 2016 , I had a flare up after noise exposure to a concert .I forgot my ears plugs so I used some cigarettes filters
.
After the concert my T was OK . The day after , during the afternoon , My T jump to a high level ( very high pitch and more loud ) . Nothing helped me anymore . Neither hearing aids or masking sounds …
July , Aug, Sept , Oct was very hard . no sleep , no life , nothing . So I went back to Benzo ( Klonopin ) + Ssri's .
I am tapering off the Benzo ( not easy )
The positive side now is I am sleeping a bit better since 1.5 month and found some masking sounds to help me to cope . I am starting slowly to get my "life " , walking , eating , yoga , went to few restaurant recently …
But the noise is still there and I can hear it above all others noises during the day and night . I am trying to stay optimistic but some days it's not easy.
MY QUESTION :
My concern is I am afraid I have damaged more hairs cells in the higher frequencies above 10 K because my sound seems to be around 10 khz and I am afraid the sound will remain like that forever.
I did a new hearing test .I lost 5 Db more in high frequency during the last 8 years . I am now -30 DB in the high frequencies around 8 K vs -25 DB in 2009 ( so no big changes here )
Since 2 month I had maybe 3 or 4 good days with manageable T . The rest of the time I am using hearings aids and masking noise
How long it take to come back to the "base line" ? To be habituated again ?
