Tinnitus Since
2005?
Cause of Tinnitus
Loud work related & Music related possibly damaged my ears
Have worked in HVAC industry, loud banging of sheet metal at job sites.
Raced at dragstrip when I was much younger... 20'S...
Played Guitar in a rock band for 6 years, every Saturday night for 4 hours.

The ringing is so bad, I'm having a difficult time THINKING... OVER THE RINGING... and The Best local Boston Doctors say... Yup, you have typical AGE RELATED HEARING LOSS, and have been given a scale that shows what range my loss is at, but can offer no relief.
I fall asleep from sheer exhaustion at night, but the ringing is still there.
I use a white noise machine to drown it out...( Beach Waves Crashing) but I have to turn it up so loud, I'm more tired, and I shut it off.

I'm at work now, trying to concentrate on what I have to do, and cant get my mind off the ringing.
I asked the Doctor if its possible to have the exact same pitch of ringing in both ears and he said no...
He didn't believe me when I told him it was exactly the same.

If you fall asleep from exhaustion, can the ringing affect your brain, (send a signal) that would make your brain think you are still awake, making you tired all the next day?

At 63, I should have some good years left, but if I have to live with this, the rest of my time on earth will not be happy.

Any input will be appreciated.
I have tried nothing to alleviate this problem... Drugs, hearing aids, therapy, message...
I need assistance, and I have no problem asking for it.

Thanks in advance for any input I get...... except from those that suggest a 22, 38, 45, if you get my drift. LOL
Thanks
David

Message to Jazzer. Having issues negotiating the site.. TMI LOOKING FOR SEND BOX ETCETERA. 22 CALIBER BULLITT, 38 CALIBER, 45 CALIBER....TO PUT ME OUT OF THIS TINNITUS MISERY.
MAYBE SOME OF YOU COULD INFORM ME ON THE QUICKEST WAY TO RESPOND
Just trying to see if anyone has any home remedies. My T problem is just a constant ringing, same pitch, all the time, no matter where I am, or what time of day it is. I really appreciate those who have responded so far. Give me some time to get up to speed here. Like Joe Walsh says, he has to ask his 10 year old how to work his phone... LOL
Take Care, David
To those that don't have this issue..... You Don't know how it Feels...being Me!

Hi David - I am so sorry you have this also.
I have been a jazz trombonist for over 50 years and am now 76.
Mine has been bad since June 2014 when a musician 'friend' blasted off in my face.
It is loud intrusive permenant.

I wish I had some great advice for you - but I don't I'm afraid.

I do practice meditation for 20 minutes each morning, which just amounts to 'hearing' my noise, but then relaxing deeply with it, to acclimatise myself to it without panic or anger.

I mention this kind of reluctantly as meditating with Tinnitus seems to help some, but disturb others.
For a better idea of how it works, read Dr Hubbard's Story.
Very best wishes David,
Dave x

Dude, just hold on, the cure is coming. Youve lived a badass life so far, just hold on for the cure for a couple more years and then youll be a new man.

As a guitarist for the Band, I stood next to the Drummer, to his left, Every time he hit that snare, it sounded like a gun going off.. I should have quit long ago, but being on stage is such a rush even at this age, was a remarkable feeling.
Thank you Jazzer, Bill, & John, I appreciate your input and suggestions.
Have you ever asked your doctors the same question.... being exhausted, and falling asleep, the ringing is still there.
Does your Brain think you are still awake, because of the ringing?
Someone somewhere must have asked this before.
Jasser, How did you feel playing jazz in front of an audience?
D

I was a natural and exciting jazz trombonist.
Well known on the British jazz scene having played on the circuit for years, since 1962 to 2018.
As I was playing I would be looking round the audience for that handful of the audience who were really lapping up what I was doing, and smiling back at me.
I had Jazz cheek, if you know what I mean by that.
It was truly great, as you yourself probably know David.
I had sound, imagination and guts - everything a Jazzer needs.

Unfortunately, as you describe things, Tinnitus itself never sleeps.
We often wake up tired.

I live within a beautiful family that loves me, in a beautiful part of the world, Surrey in Southern England. I need to succeed.
I always look for the positive way forward, at the same time as realising that the reality is that life is very tough now.

At least we can share our experiences on here without having to apologise for our thoughts and our feelings.
We are all understanding, and understood.
Very best wishes buddy,
Dave x

Jazzer: I play Rock & Roll, Blues, Background rhythm during songs until I'm unleashed to blast out a few Lead guitar solo's. Is that Jazz cheek what Dizzy G had when he blew his horn?
I don't care what I hear as far as real music is concerned...except for rap, which as far as I'm concerned, my Daughter at 5 years old (13 years ago) could emulate the sound of most rappers. I'm glad I broke her of that habit quick!!
Some songs when being played, bring tears to my eyes. Like listening to Frank Sinatra, singing Send in the Clowns, with a Guitar Virtuoso playing next to him on stage.... had to be 1965 ~ 1970.
Or Sing Sing Sing by Benny Goodman, with Gene Krupa on Drums, and listening to the band jamming together was the best. Our Band was tight, from start to finish, because we enjoyed getting it right. If it was not for this T, I'd still be playing with the group.
On the local streets here on Cape Cod in Massachusetts where I live, no one recognizes me, probably because of the glasses and Dew Rag I used to wear on stage..... Better off anyway... The Wife hatted that I got to play out every Sat Night!! HA. She is a home body, I was too, when I was home!

Great Video's Dave, I just watched a few. Like those white Pants and Striped Jacket !!
Must have been the Dixie Land Jazz Band.
Is it the T that stopped you from playing? I read a post /thread but it was not clear.
When Music is IN YOU, Its tough to just put it away...All my friends constantly ask me to play, so I'm still Playin away, just with out the Bogner Modeling Tube Amp!

Just a suggestion David.
To make sure your replies get noticed always start your message using the

That tells the original poster there is a response.

@Cape Cod David: Thanks Jazzer, I appreciate the assistance. Can you share what happened, to stop you from playing with the musical groups you were involved with?
Was it the Tinnitus issue?
I'm working right now, so it may take me a little time to get back to you.
I still have a DAY JOB, and since President Trump took the Helm of our Country, business has EXPLODED.
Take Care
David
