Seeking Info About Tinnitus

Hello, while I do not have Tinnitus my son does and he suffers greatly from it. It has completely destroyed his life. I found this forum to try and research this condition but also to email some specific people about some advice.

 

Tinnitus is a neurological condition usually caused by any form of hearing loss from ear wax to sensori-neural, but it can also be brought on by neck jaw issues or head trauma

Does he have hearing loss or trouble hearing in background noise?
if he was exposed to loud noise a lot such as concerts, mp3 palyers, a band then yes.

Does he have TMD neck/jaw problems?

Did he suffer a head injury?

Does he have sensitivity or painful sensitivity to noise? (hyperacusis)

Does he have balance issues?

Does his tinnitus get louder when he yawns or turns his neck side to side?

If he can, it is best he will join the forum where he can read many success stories which will give him some hope and comfort that people can get better. He can also learn various means and strategies which have helped. There is nothing better than learning from others who have similar conditions and who have overcome their T to varying degree. He can also post his condition and rant out his feelings. This is a healing process to help him lower his stress level. Much of the suffering from tinnitus is mental such that if he is more positive and relax about his tinnitus, his tinnitus may be easier to habituate. I have ultra high pitch tinnitus plus severe hyperacusis. I suffered a lot and was in a mess initially. But today I live a normal, happy, productive and absolutely enjoyable life. I wrote my success story and shared many helpful strategies. If my success story can help along with other success stories, please let your son read them up. Take care. God bless.

Thank you for your detailed post. From what we can figure out it appears to have come from a form of head trauma but we are not 100% sure. He is being seen by an ENT but the exact cause is uncertain at the moment. Reading this site to try and fill in some of the gaps.
