      Hello All,

For about a number of nights now, while trying to go back to sleep, I have been hearing a sudden raise of loudness of my breathing that lasts for about two seconds. I am not sure if this is a symptom of sleep apnea but it is now making me anxious. It is involuntary - I hear it when I am mostly dozing off. It is as if I hear myself breathing through my ears all of a sudden. Sometimes, I perceive it as a sudden thump in my ears that jolts me. Any experiences similar to this?

      Thank you.

      Best regards,
      Albert

Sounds like sleep apnea alright. Maybe try and sleep on your side - could use cushions or extra pillows to prop yourself in position, and maybe add a herbal or pharmaceutical sleeping aid if not using one currently.

      Thanks @Mister Muso!
I've been having it for a number of nights now usually when I am trying to fall asleep.

It could be an intermittent patulous tube.. basically opening a bit longer for a second.
Could be due to apnea. Hard to say. Would be annoying but i guess if it's not constant thats a good sign.

Hello, I have experienced the same thing heavy breathing /snoring weird type and I could not sleep. I thought sleep apnea, but I think it is related to tinnitus. The next night I had it for little while then after that I've been good. I'm thinking my sound machine or fan was off. I sleep with my head up. Try to have good thoughts and have good sleep.

      Hello @LukeYoung!

Initially I thought about patulous ET but I think ETs tend to be closed when one is lying down.
I do not have the classic symptoms but I am not totally eliminating that possibility.

Sleep apnea is a good guess, too. I sometimes snort when sleeping.

I am hoping that this would resolve soon.

      Best regards,
      Albert

      Hi @MBH!

It happens when I am trying to get back to sleep. I also hear some crackling sound but I am not sure if it is my eustachian tube or my throat. I can mimic the sound when I inhale deeply with my throat. I also have some cold and cough.

It happens very quickly when I am half awake/dozing off that I am also considering some form exploding head syndrome as it sometimes jolts me a bit.

I will try to sleep with my head up. Thank you very much for replying.

      Best regards,
