The toughest lesson in the world.

We all had pretty good lives - am I right?
Some of us had truly wonderful lives.
I would’t have traded my life with anybody.

For me, jazz ability represents the pinnacle of artistic achievement - the ability to create passionate spontaneous music, literally while thinking on one’s feet.
I played it - I always listened to the playback - I loved it. I could barely wait for my next engagement - my next foray into the world of jazz.

      But I digress.
We all had very enjoyable lives, often full of truly considerable achievements, undoubtedly with even better times to come.
Other sufferers could tell equally impressive accounts, or more so.

But then - with absolutely no warning - our lovely peaceful lives were thrown into utter turmoil, complete chaos, by some hateful accident that sought to destroy us.

Physical injury of some sort which managed by some vile fluke of fate to destroy nerve fibres in our cochleas.

The next step for us takes incredible courage, if we wish to survive.

Are we going to allow our lives to end here, or is there some way to, not only ensure our survival, but to make a success of the rest of our lives.
How can we possibly do that?

Unbelievably sad that we can not have our old lives back - what a hateful twist of fate - but we all know that that is the truth of it.

To make sense of any of this, it is vitally important to me that my close family ‘know’ what happened to me, and accept it for what it is.

It is not my fault - I am not some pathetic neurotic depressive - I am the same person that they knew before, except that I have suffered an unbelievably dreadful trauma - I am a true victim, of a hateful condition.
If I am to live and fulfil my responsibility to them, then that is the very least I expect of them.
      ‘Understanding and respect!’

If I am to be criticised - then I’m outa here,
      perhaps literally!

The reality for us all is:

      “Reality is all there is.
      We are where we are.
      Unfortunately we cannot return
      to factory settings.
      However unpalatable,
      our only option is acceptance,
      hopefully with humane support.”

For the sake of those around me, and my three adorable pussycats, I want to ‘make it.’

I write things like this because in some strange way it actually helps me to build my own often flagging resolve.

*This piece is only relevant to severe sufferers.
Those with mild tinnitus will not have one pickled clue what I am talking about.

      **Trolls respectfully stay away pleas.

You possess excellent prose. In the interim that we can't perform musically while we wait on some cure, maybe you should write an epic novel about modern life and the reality of bullshit to channel your jazz? I already bought one.

If you had such a good life, do some charity work. It will really help you discover a few things about yourself.

How is the above different from saying "if you had a good life, give me your money"?

she's not asking for him to donate to her, or give to her. She's saying that if he has had such a wonderful career, help someone else, who may be less fortunate than he is. Possibly make a difference in someone's life and use some positive energy.

I know what she was saying, and was pointing out that it is none of her business how another person spends the money that he had earned.

Nobody has to spend money on charity, volunteer some of your time...unless you're the kind of person who doesn't like things like that...in other case...don't. It's your life, do what you want.

Charity work does not mean, to always give money either. Even with this demon level tinnitus, I have fed the homeless and donated my time. It's all about making a difference in someone's life and not always our OWN.

Yes. Some of you did. For others like me, our life was over before it really got a chance to start.

That is very kind of you John, but I am not universally appreciated on here.

Mind you, I always try to write with integrity for the truth, as I see it.

My aversion to bullshit does not endear me to some, and I am absolutely pathetic at winning popularity contests, or even being placed in the running.

I will always be committed to portraying the severity of suffering in cases like our own, particularly when being attacked by pathetic attempts at sarcasm by lightweights and/or trolls.

However, I have actually been kind enough to devise a special award for such.

I wear earplugs to a supermarket that has metal carts that rattle, loud beeping scanners, and staff who sometimes cause sudden loud noises. What's the problem?

I only said what I said, because you come out and insult me for no reason. I have fed the homeless many and I take pride in doing that. I take pride in standing up to the pain and tinnitus I face daily. I did not say anything to you at all.

If you need to protect your ears fine, but don't come insulting others for no reason....

I despise virtue signalling. Having said this, I know that many people appreciate your posts. I also don't think that it makes sense to make a fellow sufferer feel bad. So if my post was out of line, I apologize.

I might have mentioned earlier that I feel like we are the polar opposites. You are the Yang (day), and I am the Ying (night). It is all good.

      My writing speaks for itself.

I do not intend to defend myself against every pathetic and grossly inaccurate insult.

My particular piece was written in the hope that it might actually encourage others with a similar severity to see a way to come through.

‘SEVERITY’ being the by-word of course.

Underplaying severity is a gross insult to those of us that truly suffer!

It is not my way to go to a kick-boxing gym and kick seven kinds of shit out of my opponent while he kicks seven kinds of shit out of me. Nothing would appeal to me less.

No, I am not a believer, but I do go to the local church to feed the homeless, help serve up their dinners, and sit with them to chat and eat, for the simple reason that I do believe in ‘people,’ and helping others wherever possible.

My wife and I have run three major charity appeals this year to support the children’s cancer wards in four major London hospitals, incorporating donations from Australia, Scandinavia, N & S America, Israel, France, Holland, in fact from fourteen countries.

We are the organisers, and major contributors,

giving hours and hours of dedicated work, over several months, and at considerable financial cost to ourselves.

I do not normally talk about such matters, but you brought the subject up remember?

If you still feel that my charity work is somehow lacking, perhaps you can come up with some more impressive suggestions.

Please try to digest all that I have said here, before making further slurs against my innately charitable nature.

However - you can’t win ‘em all, and I don’t try too hard to impress - I’m far too honest for that.

Finally, apart from having a ‘wicked’ sense of humour, I am actually a rather pleasant chap really - if I do say so me-own-self.

By the way, you may be surprised to learn that I only have just the one head.

      (Some monsters have two,

      ugly looking bastards!)

Feel free to enjoy the raspberries,

      Dave x

      Jazzer

Who said anything about you lacking charity work? She just brought up a topic and I just replied. No one knew or said anything about you DOING or not DOING charity work. @coffee_girl just said that if you have had such a great life, then do some charity work and help others. Neither myself or her know you outside this forum.

Yes, you got me there. I don't know what severe tinnitus is and I guess -80db hearing loss is not good enough either :)
