      Hi all,

      My tinnitus started while taking penicillin for 7 days (Kåvepenin, Fenoximetylpenicillin is the active substance) due to an infection in my wisdom tooth. It's been 2 months now and I've noticed a decrease, but the tinnitus has not gone away completely.

      What's your experience of drug induced/infection induced tinnitus?

      Best regards from Sweden

      @Emelie ,
      It could be the medication or due to the infection and inflamation it caused.
      I would get a dental check up and good idea to have a x-ry on the wisdom tooth to see if the tooth is impacted triggering the tinnitus.
      Love glynis

      Pennacillin doesn't have a reputation for doing direct ear damage, so I'd consider the gut.... do some research on what's known about the relationship between gut biome and GABA regulation in the brain, and consider a probiotic regimen..

      Keep in mind that correlation doesn't mean causation. Isn't it quite possible that your T was caused by the infection itself?

      Cause of Tinnitus:
      Noise / T worsened with antiobiotics
      I had a severe spike in my T after taking Augmentin (Amoxicillin plus Clavulanic acid). My T was pretty steady for nearly a decade and then bam, it spiked shortly after taking this. That was over a year ago, and the spike has never gone away though I have habituated to it.

      Did the medication list T as a side effect? Medication can definitely trigger T-i know this because I've never been exposed to noise in my life or have any history of hearing loss and my T started while taking medication but I was also very stressed out and anxious days before the T started so its a combination of factors...I say give it time. There is really no set time/period of when it will disappear but if you're already seeing improvements it means you are heading to full recovery. I'm 3.5 months in and also seeing some improvements with regular(maybe 3/week) spikes but that's part of the process. Now I'm working on not giving T so much attention because I've noticed a pattern-the more i think about it the more i hear it.
