      Tinnitus Since:

      Cause of Tinnitus:
      1-rifle fire(1956),2-jack hammer(2009),3-dentist 10/2018
      I have had tinnitus for 62 years originally caused by gunfire.

      Up until 10 years ago it was not a big problem. Then there was major jackhammer activity where I lived. After several months with the use of ear plugs and white noise generator, it was controlled until 3 weeks ago after a visit to the dentist.

      Current problem
      Whistle during the day which is corrected at bedtime (12 am) with white noise generator. However, at 3 or 4 AM the whistle has disappeared but is replaced by loud best described as white noise generated in the ear which stays until next morning (10 am) at which time the cycle is repeated.

      Problem is sleeping after waking up (3 am) due to ear generated noise.

      Any solutions or comments?

      yeah just stay up and obsessively cruise tinnitustalk.com until the sun comes up like I did this morning.

      Maybe try some light exercise before bed, drink a little booze perhaps?

      tinnitus is actually a brain generated noise caused by damage to the inner ear.

      good news is that medicine for hearing loss is in a clinical and it may help reduce tinnitus and improve hearing.

      @DnDavid ,
      Welcome to Tinnitus Talk.
      You could try Melatonin or other natural sleep aids or a low dose Antidepressant for sleep long term.
      I'm sure you will be a great support to other members as you have had tinnitus many years.
      love glynis

      Are you able to sleep without a noise generator? I have found sleeping in silence and even with earplugs helps me even though it makes your tinnitus seem louder in the absence of noise.

      I sometimes have a hard time falling asleep after waking up in the middle of the night as well.

      @DnDavid

      I have a good setup that plays very high pitched crickets sounds in my bedroom and play this all night and this helps sleeping

      my T is also from shooting rifles and assault weapons mostly, in the military and then as a hobby ...but I overdid it obviously

      I bought a FOSTEX horn tweeter - those can put very high frequency, good quality sounds and linked to my powerful amp and the sound source is the MyNoise "summer night” app on the Iphone - the android version is different and not as good
