      Ear Infection
      Could this be happening if your middle ear has been very clogged for several weeks? Dry inflammation only. Same hypoxia which by itself can generate tinnitus or be pressure to the inner ear? I was still hearing at that time, even though there were some frequencies with 10-20 dB loss as there was less auditory input. But they came back when my ear unclogged itself. And the tinnitus begun. In both ears!

      As I understand, middle ear has a sensorineural path of its own, but I couldn't distinguish if it has a connection with the auditory nerve somewhere along its path.

      I think it’s certainly possible. The other thing to consider is oxygen reperfusion injury which can happen after a state of ischemia or hypoxia.
