Hello all;

This is my first post. It is wonderful to be able to connect with others who are experiencing the same thing. I first experienced tinnitus after a kickboxing match many years ago - received a kick to my ear. It was very faint then and I never really paid much attention to it. The past couple of months have been quite difficult, especially at night. The noise prevents me from sleeping. Just recently the anxiety about not sleeping has made the noise worse. I am thinking about getting a prescription for a sleep medication.

Has this helped anyone? The day is usually OK. I am busy and able to let the ringing blend with background noises. My wife and I are retired here in beautiful Penang - such irony, to be in such beauty during the best time of my life with the person I love and so miserable with this constant irritation. I am trying to find meaning from this - maybe something to learn? Very difficult at this point.

You may consider taking amitriptyline. You might also want to try sound enrichment.

I discuss the above in more detail in the thread below where I summarize everything (26 tips spread over five posts) I learned about managing tinnitus after reading the posts on this forum for the past 11 months

Hi, and welcome to TT!

The author, speaker, and blogger, Sam Harris, has been a lifelong devotee of the marital arts, and has experienced several debilitating medical conditions due to being kicked. He also has tinnitus. If you are interested, here is his story:
