Hello everyone, please help me, I went to the ENT yesterdy and did a Tympanogram. Also he cleaned out a tiny bit of earwax with microsuction.

After a while yesterday may ears got painful, like irritated ear canal and I got a new loud static in my left ear. Also my tinnitus in my right ear is louder.

I haven‘t slept all night. What should I do? Should I go to the ER? Please help....

You could try taking Prednisone. Or are you located in the UK?

@Deamon22 I too had this procedure done which had the same effect. You can read @Blue28 thread on this, there may be something in there which could help. So very sorry to hear you have increased T as a result of this x

      Thanks @Vicki14

@Deamon22 So sorry to hear that you're also suffering because of microsuction. I'd advise you to get prednisone (steroids) and maybe a vasodilator as soon as possible (don't wait, go today) as this is the only thing that may help reduce swelling in the cochlear and recover your hearing. I'm not a doctor, I'm just talking from personal experience. Microsuction causes real damage but the doctors won't admit it. Take care.

Thank you Vicky. I already read that thread yesterday and that gave me then so much anxiety.

Hi Blue, i already went to the emergency, they checked my ears and said everything ok. They gave me nothing and sent me home. I don't have any fullness in my ear nor do they feel muffled or anything, the ear canal just feals a bit sore. The Tinnitus already calmed down more or less back to like it was before, so i hope i was lucky and didn't get any further damage. I'll wait now until monday and then eventually call the ENT where i did the exam yesterday if it gets worse again.

However i think the best now is to just leave it alone and give it time to heal since i don't want another experience like this. Maybe later i'll try to do an extended hearing test sometimes in the future.

Thank you all for your help, sorry about the panicking, but i was really worried tonight. The first night i couldn't sleep.

Can I ask, how long did your micro-suction procedure last?

I would say 3-5 seconds right ear (where i already had mild tinnitus) and maybe 10 seconds or less in the left ear (where i now have a bit of a static noise or a high pitched hum). He pulled out just 2 tiny pieces of earwax, otherwise the ear was clean.

@Deamon22 Im so glad to hear your ears have settled. Hopefully you will have no repercussions from this. I’d definitely say leave your ears alone. I truly wish I had, instead of letting the butcher touch mine. He also spent at least 10 mins removing my wax. At least yours was brief. Take care x

Thank you Vicky:). Yeah, i'll just leave them as long the T remains so mild, since i have just that seen nothing good comes out of it:D.

It was frightening because i never had sleeping problems until yesterday, normally i use a bit of a masker until i'm asleep and then i sleep normally. And then after reading the Horror storys on here it just got worse.

How are your ears? Have they gotten better?

@Deamon22 Yes, I think that’s definitely the best thing to do. I truly wish I had as my tinnitus was mild and now after the micro suction it’s now loud and I now have hypercausis. The Audiologist I had was awful and said some negative things too which caused such a negative reaction in my body. I struggle with this daily and try to be as positive as I can.

Reading horror stories only fuels our fears and it would appear that those struggling the most tend to visit sites like this. I liken it to the scene in the Titanic movie where everyone is plunged into the freezing cold water and trying frantically to stay alive!

Look after your ears and you should hopefully be absolutely fine! X

I´m so sorry that you had such a miserable experience with your Audiologist=(. My ENT also was kind of rough, he doesn’t even said that he would clean my ears, he just went for it and i wasn’t fast enough to say something.

I really hope you feel better soon:)

I did not know that before i had it done, i just read it afterwards that some people had problems and i was afraid that i made my very mild T worse just because of this.

However, the good news is, my T is the lowest since onset 1,5 months ago. The last 2 days i heard it just after waking up followed by mostly silence troughout the day. If i plug my ears in a silent room i can hear a faint hissing if i search for it, so i really hope it continues that way. I‘ll keep protecting my ears in loud environments and see how it goes.:)

My T has been made worse by ear syringing and vemp test which was 110db. I been dealing with Severe T ever since Februrary. Right now it is blasting loud, in addition I also have Severe H.

You could tell the doctor at the ER that you had to stop a screaming home fire alarm, and that your T is now much louder. You could say that it happened 24 hours before your ER visit. I did that, and they prescribed five 50 mg Prednisone pills to me. The standard course of this drug is 14 days + tapering. The standard dosage is "your weight in kg" mg per day, not to exceed 60 mg. If you see that the prednisone is working, you could go to another ER, tell them this story again, and get more pills.

I already read your story and i‘m so so sorry that this has happend to you. Since my T wasn‘t caused by a noise trauma and i‘m fairly new to this i don‘t think i can give you any advice, but i hope you will get some relief soon:) Stay strong my friend.

Hey Bill thank you for your help. Fortunately it was just a minor spike and my T reduced again back to normal, in fact it is even lower than before, maybe my nasal spray is doing the work now. Today my T while waking up was around a 1-2/10 and after half an hour awake it reduced to a minor hissing, that most of the time i couldn‘t even hear with my ears plugged. So i hope that is a good sign and it gets better from now on.

So do you think it was the ear wax that caused it then?

No, i don‘t think so because there was little to no wax in my ears. In fact i think the procedure was unnecessary.

Since i got my T in the same night as a very bad cold i think it was something between sinus infection and ET blockage. Since i use my nasal spray correctly i feel often a lot of Moucus coming down. So i hope it continues to improve.

First i used a cortison nasal spray (budesonide), now i´m using one without cortisone for about 20 days and after that i will use some of these natural sea salt sprays. However i noticed improvement after i used it correctly. Also it says that it takes weeks for improvement. https://www.fauquierent.net/etd2.htm

An audiologist told me even a small amount of wax can cause tinnitus if it's on the eardrum. Not sure how true it is but it's possible

Could be, altough the first ENT whom i visited said nothing about earwax, but who knows. I can tell you what i did since it got better.

-Beginning of June: Onset after a cold
-first ENT visit, recieved a cortisone spray
-1 month not much change, a slight reduction maybe.
-Spike (for about 2 days) after 2 x 8 hour flights and 4 hour drives (middle of july)
-After the flight i started with Melatonin & Nicotinamide Riboside
-3 days after the flight i had my first day of near silence.
-1 day later i went tho my second ENT, had the microsuction and a 1 day spike.
-i started using nasal spray correctly and did the ET drainage.
-2 days after microsuction i had again a full day of silence.
-today is the 3 day of near complete silence, except a slight whistling in the morning and a faint hissing like an airflow hen i plug my ears.

Thats more or less everything. I hope it continues like that:)

I wear hearing aids, started losing hearing when pregnant in 09 cause investigated & never solved. It only affected left side until I had microsuction last year, in the right ear. I found the procedure incredibly loud, uncomfortable at times. After I had severe tinnitus, & knew something was different with my hearing. Tested & found to have had a significant loss of hearing.

I am being referred to ENT but sure it's related to the procedure. I would suggest anyone with hearing issues should think carefully before having this done.

Micro suction should be outlawed. I lost 60% of my high frequency hearing in both ears after that awful procedure and my T elevated hugely. I’m trying to get any answers from ENT but the claim they never had problems. I’m going to a specialist to get better answers I hope. This is mal practice.
DONT EVER GET MICRO SUCTION ON YOUR EARS
