      He was in the car firing the gun - I am talking about accoustic trauma here

      We can cure bullet holes but not dead hair cells - big difference

      Poor little boy I hope his hearing will recover

      In a small enclosed space like a car? Even the hearing of young people will not recover from that. Very sad indeed.

      One-time loud burst of sound doesn't necessarily harm the hearing permanently. The boy could be fine.

      I was not so lucky. One burst. To short for the protecting mechanism in my ears. I shot guns (on one occasion) with double ear protection and was impressed/surprised by the sound level. I hope the boy is fine.
