USC Stem Cell Lab Finds Clues on How Key Gene Enables Hearing (ATOH1)

This is good news that they found two more genes that interact with ATOH1. I wonder how many more there are though. If its hundreds or thousands we are in a for the long haul.

That is what Stefen Heller told me when I contacted him a few months ago. The current ATOH1 trial is only an teaser...they will intend to improve on the formula and hopefully release it as an "cocktail" of genes

I remember reading a while back that Genvec had a new formula that they came out with. It was posted on one of the other threads. I wonder if they had this info at the time. Maybe we are closer than we think?

That would not surprise me. In one year much more is known about mechanisms in the inner ear. You would expect that also is the case for this clinical trial.
On the other hand, how much can they change in an ongoing clinical trial?. I remember this was discussed in another thread. Some "tweaking" is possible.
I still think that the scientists at GenVec must be pretty clever and will take notice of scepticism from some other scientists.

I'm as skeptical as my tinnitus is constant.
Is your tinnitus constant? (-;
Perhaps it is too optimistic, but that there is a lot more insight than, lets say, 5 years ago I think is realistic.
If this insight is useful for practical applications is what we al would like to know.

From what I've read, a few.

That does not mean we have to understand everything to start finding "cures" for certain types of deafness.

It's constantly fluctuating really fast, like meeer weeee pssssst werrr meeee weee all those sounds going so fast sometimes all of them just in one second

Way way faster than my heartbeat. It will fluctuate 5-10 times per heartbeat so 5 to 10 times faster than my heartbeat. It's the same 3 sounds in my right ear but they manifest new each time there isn't any pattern just really fast and the same 3 sounds new every nanosecond.
