Cause of Tinnitus
Airbag Deployment
Hello everyone.

My issues began in April 2015 when l was involved in a mva . Side Airbag deployed and struck my left ear/face /jaw and shoulder. Instantly I couldn't hear anything but a high pitched buzzing noise in the left ear that moved to the right. With that came the sensetivity to any noise and till this day ots unbearable. I had MRI scans done, ENT appointments, specialist appointments and all recomend that l stay away from noisy environments (which in other words mean abstain from anything / not practical ). l started a tinnitus and hyperacusis training session and they gave me sound generators which are helpful in quiet environments. Thesent 20 months have been the hardest for me because l have to avoid the things l love the most.

I was a DJ for 12 years, played sports all my life, career was on the up and up working as a building operator and an open application with a law enforcement agency. All those things were taken away now l have to start afresh, look for a quiet job that does not affect or flare up the H & T.
What factors and recommendations do l need to consider in looking for a new career other than avoid noisy areas?

It must be quite difficult to have dealt with that MVA, and also lose your hearing, and love of music (how does music sound now?)
Honestly the first and only ideal job that comes to mind for us T+A sufferers is the library...well i wanted to work at one of those before the T, so maybe thats why it's all I can think of.

Hopefully your hearing will improve, we look at lots of "alternative" methods of treating hearing problems resulting from acoustic trauma, and sometimes physical too! (even though acoustic trauma is also physical when you think about it).

Hope you find some useful information here.

Silver Spiral thanks for the recommendation, a few people have brought that up. Music right now, I only can hear out of one ear but that also make the T worse so l try and increase that so as to retrain the ear.

Hi Walker,

Welcome to the site!

The answer to your question would largely depend on both your personality and your aptitude. Do you like computers? Most jobs in Corporate America are your standard "operations" jobs, where you will sit behind a desk all day staring a computer. If that's not the right environment for you, you can work in sales - e.g. car salesman. It's really up to you.
