I noticed some sawdust on the window sill, and saw a hole in the wall overhanging the window sill. When I sprayed WD 40 oil there, some ants came out. It looks like those are carpenter ants. I made an appointment with an exterminator. I am now worried that the exterminator will use chemicals that are ototoxic. I will try to get him to use boric acid, but that might not be possible.

I just use ant powder .
In my case, the entrance to their gallery is over and above the window sill, so the powder is not an option as it will fall out. I don't even see the ants in the house, and this means that I can't use those ant products where the ants pick up the slow-acting poison and carry it back to the colony.

I'm sure you will be fine.
I realize that the chance that "things will go South" is low, but that chance is not zero... At the same time, I guess ignoring those ants is not an option. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Will the chemicals be outside of the house or inside? If inside, open up all your windows to air the place out. If outside, keep your windows closed and try to avoid the area for a while if you can. (And dash through it quickly if you can't avoid it.) Good luck. Ants are gross.
