Well I didnt do ear syrnging for ear wax removal but I did the caloric test which is similiar. Water is irrigated into the eardrum comes back out and viola. I think anything that involves getting water irrigated in your ear is syringing. I paid a hefty price for it. I wish I could turn back time :(

Please, absolutely refuse if your ENT will try to remove your earwax with microsuction or syringing. The best option is manual cleaning.

I would agree that the softer the earwax gets, the less dangerous the syringing becomes, because a smaller force is needed, and once the water thrusted gets, after softening, a small space to pass by the earwax plug and get underneath it, is much easier. Or if the softening solution is so good...
