I don't know if there's any evidence of T being exaserbated by stress, but I can personally attest to this being the case for myself. I hadn't been cognizant of my T at all today until I received some bad news. Then my ears began buzzing like crazy.

I use a free iPad/iPhone app called Relax Melodies. It's highly customizable. Place my iPad/iPhone near the head board and keep it a very low volume.

Yes, but I think all hearing is diminished when one yawns at least. When you chew the sound of your chewing my drown out T sounds.

Not just talking. 200 people I'm a small room talking over one another. It was LOUD.

Things will get better. I am certain of that. I had T over 15 years ago and it went away completely. And then resurfaced at the end of October/early November. It's still with me, but now I hardly notice it during waking hours. I'm still using low-volume ambient sounds to fall asleep...

Afrin and Sudafed has helped diminish my T too. If your T is caused by a sinus/ear infection it's very likely these meds would offer relief.

Hi @DebInAustralia, My T began in late October/early November 2013. This is my second time having T. I had it for several months 15+ years ago and it did go away completely at that time. I'm still hopeful that this will go away, but if it doesn't I'll be okay.

Thank you, LeQuack. It's quite strange to me. My T typically emanates from my left ear, and very rarely from my right.

Instead the sound radiates from my head as a whole. Does anyone else have this? Even in silence with my ears pressed against a pillow, the sounds is no longer beling emitted from the ears.

Nick, maybe your tinnitus hasn't actually increased since you're sober now, but maybe your perception of it makes it seem louder.

I drink maybe one alcoholic beverage per year. I've just never had an interest in it.

It's so strange. This has happened before, but in my left ear. The ringing in my right ear just got very loud, then faded off into near silence. It's bothersome and fascinating. I'm just glad I find it interesting or else it would probably drive me batty.

Thank you so much, @Stina. My cat is doing better, thank you. I think you may be right that it's fatigue and/or stress related. I just got off the phone with City of Hope making arrangements to get my mom another medical consultation for her (possible) cancer.

Update.... My right ear just began ringing. What the heck? No morse code type sound though, thankfully. I swear I'm just listening to all sorts of brain activity.

I live in coastal Southern California. The weather's been warm. Too warm. And too dry. I'd love some cooler. temps and rain. It's been in the 70's Fahrenheit during the day.

@Per, Years ago I worked for an audiologist. We often referred to House Ear Institute. It's very well known and has a fantastic reputation. The Mayo Clinic is also world class.

Thank you all for your posts. I had been out of town and didn't notice the replies. I find this all so strange. My right ear has been all quiet since getting good sleep.

I just wanted to share that the sounds in my right ear only lasted 24 hours (roughly). Once I finally felt well rested the T sounds were gone from that ear.

When my T first came on, the beeps for the timer on my camera (I'm a photographer) even bothered by ears. I can't image playing an instrument.

If something works for you, keep it. If it doesn't work for you, reject it. The OP is beneficial to some and not to others. I believe he had only good intentions when posting. If this post doesn't work for you, keep reading others, and you'll find something that's beneficial to you.

Thank you @I who love music. I had one night about two weeks into T where I awakened 6 times with the screeching. The next night I tried my iPad set up and slept like a baby. Its been good ever since and getting better.

I have ambient nature sounds at an extremely low level on all night most nights. I position my iPad between my pillow and the head board, but with the speaker facing me. It's turned on one to two levels above silent. My husband can't hear it because it's so low. I find my T is barely audible...

I also use nature sounds where crickets are one of the elements (the other elements are storm, wind, and a fire crackling). Love my crickets! I only use this to aid in falling asleep.

More than likely it'll decrease to its baseline. Try not to stress about it. Get a good nights rest and it may be back to its normal in the morning.

Hi @2014winner, Yes, I believe this time it was caused by an ear/sinus infection. My left ear (t ear) was full of fluid. But I hadn't heard any T in the 15 years in between. I do believe it will go away this time as well.

Hi @demi, I had bad, crazy loud noise induced T 15+ years ago and it went away completely in months. It can fade so much as to not be noticeable or you habituate. I do believe mine just faded completely. I couldn't even near it when I listen for it.

I've attended several movies since having T. I just wear NNR 32 foam earplugs. The movie is still plenty loud.
