Bose noise cancelling headphones seem to be doing a good job of filtering out airplane engine noise. 3M Peltor earmuffs are also very good, are a lot cheaper, but are less comfortable.

I agree. Ear plugs are supposed to help but the worse the tinnitus is, the worse it for wearing plugs because the tinnitus is isolated or not masked at all as outside noise is blocked off. I don't know if this is a good idea but noise cancelling headphones might muffle the wind enough? I dunno.

It sounds like these were noise-isolating or noise-cancelling earbuds from Bose. Given that earplugs reduce the noise by at most 30 dB, I doubt the noise reduction of his earbuds was considerably lower than that of earplugs.

O' I use them a lot. The Bose quiet comfort headphones are great. Normally I use them in loud environments with earplugs underneath them.
