Hi there! How is it going for you, how are you doing these days? I am in a similar situation as you but my onset was triggered by Wellbutrin so now I am severely wary of any new drug.

But what about Lexapro? Helped you a bit? Spiked your tinnitus?

...it makes my tinnitus disappear, but coming off of it last time led to the mess i'm in now. If you've only been on it a week, then I would come off it. Not only can prozac bring on tinnitus, but it can also make it worse. But, i'm no dr, although my dr didn't know about these side effects either.

Been there my friend. It does get better with time. Just passed 6 months. Not gone but quiet enough to live life. You'll get there. I took prozac for about 4 months. didnt affect the tinnitus but helped me calm down from withdrawals

Thanks, that's exactly what I did, was depressed so used that to stress relieve only to cause t! :-( I have a scrip for prozac but scared to take it.

The plan was to go from 40 mg to 20 mg over 6 months. However, if I decide to come off of Prozac completely I would go from 20 mg to 0 mg over a number of years. It's the last bit that takes forever. Not sure what to do yet.

@bandit0524 , Try steam inhalation and take Sudafed to clear your tubes. Prozac could have caused it and as your brain adjusts it should settle down again. Keep posting for support...love glynis

I'm wavering on a few medications for anti-depressants after Prozac seemingly spiked mine. A friend of mine takes Lithium for anxiety and she said it's helped reduce her tinnitus to a much better level. I'm curious if anyone has experience with lithium in relation to tinnitus?

I just found out Cymbalta is an SNRI not an SSRI. Prozac is an SSRI. Lyica is an anti-convulsant similar in effect to a benzodiapines with less risk of dependancy. BuSpar is some kind of mood stabilizer.

Yea I was a good sport on the low dose amitriptyline (which I've ceased taking) that she first prescribed for sleeping, but the Prozac seems to be much higher stakes. That truly is a sobering and frightening read indeed. It only confirms, what I suspected all along. Those things should only be taken when the other alternative is death, at which point one has nothing to lose anymore.

Take the Prozac and let it start to work. It will take a few weeks as you know. If you're worried about the klonopin. Speak with your doctor and get the doc to speak with your mum about it and explain the drug.

I have Lyrica. I am going to stay on that for a while. I am fine other then I have panic and anxiety. I am not depressed at all. They wanted to give me Prozac or Buspar when I got off the Cymbalta.

No I am not crazy and most of those medications make tinnitus worse for people in the long run.

Prozac. It has a similar mechanism of action to sertraline and it has a huge half life, meaning it is way easier to come off gradually. I don't really know about the ototoxicity though, it is debated that every single SSRI is ototoxic.

I would stop it! An SSRI and/or a betablocker brought on my T. I would really stick with the other methods if you can.

That's what CBT is really for, depression, anxiety, phobias etc. Not distress from actual physical diseases.

Sorry I am a bit late to the party Dr Nagler, but if it is of any help to you I was on Prozac for three years (2011-2014) on doses between 20mg and 60mg but I didn't notice it having any effect on my tinnitus whatsoever.
