I just want to share this with other tinnitus sufferers with the hope that it might provide a bit of relief for others.

I have been suffering from high-pitch tinnitus for a number of years. It varies in intensity and is worse in winter and eases somewhat in summer. I have often noticed that it gets worse after a cup of coffee, but I love coffee, so it has not put me off enjoying two cups a day.

I also suffer from asthma and was looking for natural supplements a few years ago to help me with relief of asthma symptoms. I read somewhere about using Blackseed oil (also known as Nigella Sativa or Black cumin) to help with asthma, so I tried it for a while. I take about half a teaspoon. It is very strong and will burn the back of your throat if taken neat, so it's best to mix with juice or something to dilute it. I normally put it straight in my mouth and then add a mouth full of water, mix it around and then swallow it so as to save wasting residue in a glass.

Well, I didn't notice any affect on my asthma and decided to stop taking it. But, I noticed that, within a day or so of stopping, my tinnitus got worse. So, I started taking it again and noticed some relief. The tinnitus doesn't go away completely, but it definitely reduces in intensity. Some days I have neglected to take it and a couple of other occasions have actively tried to stop taking it, but have always noticed my tinnitus getting worse within a day or two.

I do take other supplements, so there may be a synergistic effect - I don't know. They are cod liver oil, vitamins B complex, C, D3 and magnesium chloride dissolved in water. All these supplements are an attempt to relieve asthma symptoms.

If anyone else finds that Blackseed oil helps them with tinnitus, I would love to know.

Interestingly enough, my traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) worker gave me this as a supplement. She wants me to take it 6 times a week for the next month or so. I haven't started yet but I do find this interesting.

I take Zinc, Gingko (the most overrated supplement in my opinion), B12 (about 2-3 months taking all them) and Cod liver and garlic captules (about 2-3 weeks taking them).

      Nothing but new noise.

Might as well add this to the morning cocktail. Thanks!

Did the TCM worker give you this for tinnitus specifically? What is the dosage/strength of the supplement? Did you get any other treatment from the TCM?
      Thanks hope your health improves

She did, amongst many other supplements and herbs. Not sure of the dosage or strength as the writing is all in Chinese minus the Blackseed Sativa part. Not gonna lie though, no effect on T so far :(

What are the other supplements and herbs? I've been wanting to see a TCM specialist but can not afford to.

I'll have to go through the list (which is at my house at the moment) but I'll PM you what she wrote out for me, there are alot (and I mean alot) of them but I'll make sure to send you the list and instructions on how to brew properly. She also instructed me no sex/masturbation for at least a month (haha).

Thanks. That last bit is a very common recommendation in traditional chinese medicine, and even daoist medicine/practices. Commonly debated as well...

After researching blackseed oil on different sites there is no correlation to the oil doing anything to help with tinnitus. But it is a good product for ear infection.

Agreed. I also did not find any literature on Blackseed Oil for Tinnitus. It was because there was some mention somewhere of using it for asthma that I started taking it. Right now, I have not taken it for 3 days (experimenting for another reason) and have noticed an increase in my Tinnitus. It's not drastic, but it is noticeable.

@Theophilus hey so I was in the vitamin shoppe around my way the other day buying supplements that will hopefully help with this hell im going through (severe onset started 12/17) and hasn’t stopped since constant high pitched tone in the CENTER OF MY HEAD :( but I was grabbing a bottle of Braggs ACV as I have been using it and thought I was noticing a 5% lowering of T when using but the guy that worked there quickly grabbed it from me and said NO stop taking this and directed me to what he stated “a cure all” and it is black seed oil so I came on here to see if it worked for anyone and found your post. I have not taken it yet as I am scared of the taste lol I read it burns I just wanted to know since it seems to be working for you what was the cause of your T and what does it sound like and is it in your ears or head? Thank you

@Dginobile Blackseed Oil is very strong and I found that it can burn my throat if taken neat. It's generally recommended to mix it with something like orange juice. My T is high pitch T in my ears and generally is not too bad, but gets worse at times, specially winter. It disappears when I sleep.

I have stopped taking Blackseed Oil for about a week now and am trying gelatin for digestive system health and asthma. I'm hoping that the gelatin might also help with T - one of the reasons I wanted to remove Blackseed Oil from the equation.

I also take cod-liver oil. I believe that it's important to have good quality oils and fats in your diet. I think it stands to reason that T is a nervous system problem and your nerves have an insulating sheath on the outside called the myelin sheath. If you lack good fats/oils in your diet, then it stands to reason that this could cause problems with the myelin sheath and hence cause nervous system problems.

For decades there has been a trend to eliminate fat from our diets because of cardiovascular disease. A classic example is low fat milk. It's also popular amongst weight watchers. The problem is that when they remove the fat, the taste becomes bland, so they add sugar to make it more palatable. Sugar is the real problem in our diet, not fat (good quality fat). Go for the fats and oils that our forefathers used to eat - butter instead of margarine, etc. Everything in moderation. Get regular exercise as well.

@Dginobile There are two reasons that I have stopped taking it temporarily:

      1. I have had some discomfort and mild soreness in my throat for over a year. I saw an ENT and had a CAT scan, but there was nothing conclusive. I suspect that it is due to silent reflux. A friend suggested that it could be the Blackseed Oil burning my throat, so that is one reason I have stopped taking it for now - just to see if it is the cause. So far, I don't think that the Blackseed Oil is the cause - I still think it is silent reflux.

      2. I don't like taking tons of supplements and am hoping to consolidate and minimise what I take. Since I have started taking gelatin, I am hoping that it might help with the T, in which case I could drop the Blackseed.

One option with Blackseed Oil is to take it in soft-gel capsule form. This would prevent any throat burning and would make it quicker and easier to take. I need to research what is available.

Just a note while I think of it - I have tried a few different brands of Blackseed Oil and found that some of them are not as potent as others. I'm guessing that they might dilute it with a cheaper oil. The one that I have found most effective that is locally available is Ashwin Kalonji Oil: http://www.ashwinpharma.co.in/kalonji-oil.htm

2 weeks ago i bought a 1kg bag of blackseed (not the oil extract, but the actual black seeds).
Taking it daily 1 teaspoon in the morning on bread with honey, and put a teaspoon trough the main dish, like its nice with shoarma, spagetti etc.
Sofar no change with tinnitus, but it reduced allergy quite a bit.

Chewing the Blackseed, rather than obtaining it in capsule or liquid form, sends the oils and vapors directly, immediately to passages in the nose and onto the inner ear.

Thus, my experience: immediate relief from the overpowering noise that drives the tinnitus sufferer crazy.

Update: unfortunately my luck with black seeds did not last long. A couple of days. Then I went back to spikes in tinnitus. So: the search for a treatment or cure continues. Never give up, I’d like to think.

I've been taking black seed oil for probably 7 years now - like a religion. 1-2 teaspoons every day. I've purchased many brands of varying potency. I do the math to determine which brand and potency I'll buy. Black seed oil has really gone up in price over the last 5 years or so.

But I don't take it for tinnitus. It doesn't do a darn thing to relieve my tinnitus. Only relief I get from tinnitus is listening to white noise, which does a good job masking it. Sometimes the white noise has a lasting effect, other times the buzz in my head (or ears...) comes back within a couple seconds after shutting down the sound generator.

Anyway, I've tried all kinds of concoctions and supplements including vitamins, zinc, magnesium, yaddity yaddity... and none of it does a doggone thing to relieve it other than white noise.
