Haven't been able to go to the movies or a restaurant in a long time. With my hyperacusis worsening, I feel like I'll never be able to go again. With hyperacusis, I feel like I especially can't do anything. Recently my SO went to his friend's wedding alone and this really, really upset me.

Right now we just get take out and rent a movie but even this is hard because with hyperacusis I have to have the volume on near mute because movie sound effects are so loud.

Any ideas we can share with each other?

Have you considered board games as a fun date night activity? They are not generally too loud and time goes by pretty quickly when you're playing. :)

Another thing is reading to your partner, you can both pick out a book, then take turns reading. Or playing video games together is pretty fun too. :)

      - You can mute the movie and improvise the dialogue by making up your own scripts
      - you can build a cool pillow fort with cozy foods and stuff. Then you could work on writing a story together. Like you write a paragraph then he does
-you could play silent uno and whoever breaks the silence (unless it’s cause they win) has to cook or do whatever the other one says
      -you could make pizza together

Yes, this is where having chronic pain in addition to T and H is ruining my life. I can't play video games or board games. They put me in immense pain.

But I can watch him play.

I fuckin hate my neighbor's dogs too man. I want to kill them but they are so dodgy that I cant even do that effectively. They have attacked 3 of my other neighbors' cats and one rabbit. My dumbass neighbor lets them out to roam the neighborhood at like 12 - 4 AM and they bark about once per second and my house perfectly resonates with their barks. I have laid in bed awake for hours fantasizing about how to kill them, and that was long before I had tinnitus. Oh well..

yeah dude. they ripped my neighbor's cat's ass up and they run around my house all night barking. I once spent half a day keeping them from killing my neighbors rabbit after busting its cage open. I couldn't catch the rabbit and the owners weren't home. they are savage beasts that deserve to be killed. If you think that's inhumane then you're stupid. My other neighbor's cat was brutally attacked by these beasts and is now super afraid of everything. When the owner was confronted about it he lied and said he never lets his dogs out which is a lie. We all know they are his dogs.

To make movie watching easier, have you tried
      1. Soundlock
      https://download.cnet.com/Sound-Lock/3000-2169_4-75761078.html

It sets a maximum volume. So explosions and screams will be of the same loudness as a conversation. I've watched Brooklyn 99 recently and this was very handy, as there were often sudden screams in that show....

Is there anything I can do to use this on a smart tv?

Not directly, but if you have a laptop you can connect it to your Smart TV with a 10$ cable. You would have to run the content from the laptop though. I assume you can watch all traditional channels via web streaming as well, and not just Netflix/HBO/Youtube (in Sweden you can, and I think the US TV companies are ahead of us).

Combine this with a wireless touchbad keyboard that acts as a remote and you can sit in the sofa as usual upload_2018-11-11_14-26-49.jpeg

Suppressors are legal in the US now.

I should have mentioned that a suppressor is the actual name of the movie devices know as silencers. "Put put"-- down one loud dog, a few more to go. :)

Glynis you have a romantic streak there! Coffee Girl above, talking about board games and reading to her partner, ought to get that divorce plan down now---before her husband gathers up his stuff and hits the road.
