Great news. I want to see something in a phase I here soon. They have been working for a number of years, but nothing appears to be ready for trails.

 

I came across this before and was about to post it, but noooooo Aaron decided to post it first

 

Do you know what Decibal talks about developing therapeutics for hearing loss AND tinnitus, and while I read and try my best to comprehend the science behind repairing hearing loss I don't read anything that suggests how they are addressing tinnitus. It seems they are hoping that repair or regeneration of hair cells is just going to decrease or eliminate tinnitus which would be great, but what I'm saying there isn't anything that I've read from them on how they are planning on treating tinnitus or the MoA on how it will work.

I'm also curious how Decibal could help me if their advancements ever come to the market, I have normal hearing on a normal audiogram and when I've tried testing myself above 8 kHz everything seems normal. No hypercausis but just tinnitus in one ear, that is loud and piercing and would like very much to get rid of it.

 

Take @Aaron123 for example, he is dark and mysterious, we know nothing about him as a community, but his knowledge wow his knowledge, he is straight to the facts and he is on the ball with the research. You know when he posts I make myself a cup of tea because you know it's going to be interesting and a good read.

 

And this partnership could put pressure up for other companies.

 

This is great news. I wish we could learn more about what they are up to though. Ever since these companies have gone private I don't see any articles about any breakthroughs on research anymore.

What does this mean? They make it sound like something positive, but I read it like something negative

 

If they can restore hearing at lost frequencies I would bet my bottom dollar that the associated tinnitus frequencies will be absent the errant tinnitus sounds because youll be actuallu hearing those frequencies again. If the T is still present at those frequencies after hearing is restored then how could you actually be hearing again?

 

how i wish i can hear normally again!!! Deafness and tinnitus sucks big time even with a cochlear implant on one side!

 

As far as I understand, Decibel Therapeutics does not have a ready-made substance with which they are going to perform regeneration, in contrast to Frequency.

They are only in search of / developments of this substance. So?

Financing the company is quite good - they received the first round of investment capital of $55 million. Among the investors is also the company Google Ventures.

In fact, these investors have funded dozens of projects in the field of biotechnology.

But I would like to believe that Decibel Therapeutics will make a real result.

Why Space Matters to Decibel Therapeutics

 

The video you just posted above is exactly why I gave up on Decibel early on. They are spending gobs of dollar focused on developing a space for their employees happiness rather then doing tests, experiments, and developing precinal products. I dont buy the whole concept that expensive customly designed space will result in innovation. Just frustrating to see the gross mis-allocation of resources.

 

Yes, too much attention to corporate culture, and not to the real effectiveness of the company's research.
A huge spacious office with many employees who sit behind expensive computers.

They have a good investment, even better than Frequency Therapeutics, but so far there are no visible results.

I hope investors will require them to be more efficient and quick, otherwise they will not pay back their investments for a long time.

 

Interesting concept. So if I sit in the lobby of a super high-end hotel for a week, maybe I can come up with a world-changing idea too!!

 

I live in a one bedroom apartment. No wonder all my ideas suck.

 

With nice offices they can more easily attract and retain the best talent.

With that said, I hope they come up with a cure ASAP...

Yeah wtf is up with that? That is beyond superficial and pointless. "Dur we're trying to cure debilitating diseases, look how fancy our office space is." Hopefully this is just some goofy crap from their PR department and doesnt reflect the overall company culture and mission.

 

I don't know, I think it's a smart move. The way I see it, FX Therapeutics is sort of a get-rich-quick scheme compared to Decibel. Their funding is smaller and you can see that they outsourced their current trials to the small Alamo ENT.
This is not to say that FX doesn't have an excellent idea or that it won't work (I hope and pray that it does!)
But Decibel seems to be in it for the long haul. The ear is really, really complicated. If you want to really figure things out, you need to start from the ground up, and a top-notch research space is important. Unfortunately there is still so much about the auditory system that science doesn't know. That's the way I see it.
Personally I'm glad that both types of companies exist. The more the better!!
