Watching TV, movies in fact, used to be my favorite pastime, but not anymore because I can hear my tinnitus clearly over TV.

Does anyone has any suggestions as to make watching TV still enjoyable in spite of tinnitus?

If you can keep yourself busy every waking minute, that's good for you. But I can't, there will always be some downtime and I wish I can just sit down and relax.

Find a sound that helps to deal with your T and play it at the same time.

There are dozens or more sound files you can play in the background to cover while watching TV, I do it every day.

I do, but not a lot of it because the tinnitus is extremely distracting. Faster-paced shows are usually okay because my brain will latch on to the action instead of the tinnitus, slow dramas and movies are a no-no. Just one more thing you lose. I recommend video games as they require active input from you.

I have this problem. Since I have a hearing aid, I use the Bluetooth function to stream a masking sound at low volume to distract me from my T. I'm then able to watch TV without distraction...if that makes any sense.

When I do laborious stuff or eating, my brain tends to tune out most of the T automatically. I found chewing gums or doing origami helps with watching TV. But there isn't much joy this way.
For those who habituated, do you not hear your T while watching TV or you just don't find it distracting?

I think being able to just sit down and watch some TV or movies can help immensely with taking the edge off T.

I seem to get on well with TV, but to much TV starts to annoy me (it did before anyway). My brain seems to zone out to the tv prog I am watching. Still annoying though.

Never had a problem before with tv and tinnitus in 5 years but since latest sounds incident, notice tv seems to really affect it. Can't work out if its because of static/ electromagnetic or tv sounds. Have tried small speaker attached with an aux cable and seems to help a bit. But do wonder about electromagnetic as I have problems with phones also

You still hear T when you are habituated. It's just easier to ignore.

To respond to the actual thread, um, yeah I still watch TV. I also have chronic pain so it's the only guaranteed safe activity for me that doesn't make me more in pain.
      :/
Try an active hobby? Sounds great if you have the pleasure of not being disabled.
But in my opinion, you shouldn't have problems watching tv unless you have severe T. Try working on your emotional response to your T.

I'm not able to tolerate the sound on TV or radio now. I used to love music! If I attempt to 'be strong and play a few of my rock songs on YouTube it gets to a point where my brain seems to start deciphering the sound wrong, and at that point I start feeling a growing sense of unease to the point I have to switch the music off, and end up splashing water on my face and feeling like I'm going to have a fit. I've decided to give up on music at this point, which is sad because I love it. What a bloody cruel affliction this is we all suffer from! I'm afraid I can't manage to listen to the volume on TV either st this stage. They should let folk such as us off from having to pay for a licence. .

White noise at low volume with phone helps while watching TV.

Also crinkling a Welch's fruit gummy bag helps via 'tinnitus inhibition'.

Mindfulness can also help. But that's more difficult to do it seems.

      It depends.
I have little trouble with speaking voices.
But a football game with a noisy crowd in the background is no longer possible...

At this stage, I don't know if I can keep watching TV anymore. With hyperacusis, sound is painful and sound from speakers brings on the pain.

This was my only safe activity...

I feel your pain. I was just driving and my ear was upset at the sound of the wheels on the road. So I crinkled an empty gummy wrapper that was in my pocket and the ear was soothed. H is seemingly this wild beast tamed by bizarre empty snack baggies.

then it's technically not the definition of what many consider hyperacusis.
