I've come to learn that the people on Tinnitus Talk either have had it for multiple years or less than six months, so does most tinnitus go away? Or am I just having false hope?

I do not have the exact stats, but most tinnitus cases get resolved. The odds are in your favour.

I think most cases resolves and especially the ones that are noise induced. I have seen so many cases here in success stories go like "I used to have tinnitus after attending a club," "My tinnitus started after a loud concert"... But I'm not sure about the idiopathic cases.

FWIW, I got my tinnitus after a concert and it hasn't gone away. if anything, it has gotten worse even though I haven't been to a concert since and protect my ears all the time. Go figure.

If it's your first time with tinnitus that hasn't left in multiple days, pinching static ringing, and if it's caused by noise and you can still hear fine... leave it alone.

Yes, it will likely go away. Be careful because next time it might not.

How long can it take to go away? Usually 6 months but there's stories of up to 2 years... it is not linear. Many people say it suddenly got better.

If it doesn't go away, the volume will certainly reduce and your coping ability will rise to the occasion.

Just don't get worse. Don't be stupid with noise or drugs or you will end up like us.

I'm going onto week 6 but have some hyperacusis so not sure if I’m in that category.

Not religious but I pray this is true. I just wish it wasn’t reactive so outside could give me peace.

What about people with up and down reactive tinnitus? Haha.

@Jason C had his tinnitus and reactivity go away I believe.

A little over 2 years in now my reactivity has greatly decreased. My tinnitus has also greatly improved. I still have hyperacusis, TTTS, ETD and TMJ issues that didn’t happen till when I got tinnitus. So it’s not all rosey. I had considerable flare up of my issues with the 2nd dose of Pfizer, but it’s gone now.

Things can get better. Mine wasn’t linear and there were times where I felt like all progress was either an illusion or had retrogressed and feared it would stay that way. But eventually there would be further improvement. I didn’t start noticing improvement for a year really.

Mine wasn’t mild to begin with. It was like a 7 and several of the meds that doctors gave me to try and be able to sleep made it 10/10.

It’s definitely not habituation for me. I didn’t get to a point where I could ever ignore my tinnitus till the volume reduced enough to where I could sleep without taking benzos. That took over a year.

      Overall, everything has improved somewhat.

Thanks so much for that info! I deeply needed it as my mental health is quite fragile as I've passed the 1 month mark. Wish mine was acoustic related.

Thank you so much. Wishing you continued healing.

I think tinnitus goes away only for those that are young or those that are sensible enough to protect their ears after onset of tinnitus. For most of us on this forum it probably will never go away. Mine has got a lot lot worse as I am older and didn’t protect from the beginning.
