Cause of Tinnitus
loud noise - house construction - metal fabrication
Hi, I've been reading a bit on this forum and it looks like it has a wealth of valuable information.

I worked in metal shops and had a metal fabricating business, and those shops are full of loud noises. I sometimes got temporary ringing in the ears then but it was building a house, and specifically using nail guns and staple guns for roofing, sometimes during which I would forget to bring the ear muffs up with me, that caused the permanent ringing. It is a bit annoying at times but I get along ok with it. I do have hope to make it better though and this forum looks like it can be of some good help.

For you entertainment: I'm a chi kung master, nei kung actually, and my teacher was a very powerful chi kung master and kung fu master who was Bruce Lee's primary teacher in Seattle, Washington, for eight years. Most people are unaware of this because my teacher avoided publicity and wished to remain hidden from the public. Anyway this technically makes me Bruce's kung fu brother although I never met him.

Have a wonderful day,
Steve

Welcome to the forum Steve. Glad to know you are handling your T well. You are a 'T veteran' of sort. So you are welcome to share more of your coping skills here. I am a fan of Bruce Lee. He is such a legend. Chi Kung has been discussed much as an alternative treatment and there is even a thread on TT for it. Perhaps you find it interesting.

I'm baaaack. Hello people.

Concerning coping skill, I guess the way I cope with it is just accept it. I think all the meditation I've done as part of my chi kung practice makes it easier to accept things as they are. That, plus a lot of time with it has allowed me to sort of become accustomed to it. At first it was distracting and made meditation more difficult but now it doesn't bother much. A lot of the time, when I'm focussing on day to day activities I don't notice it, and when I do notice it I just take an attitude of resignation.

I just tell myself, I'll know i've transitioned to the 'other side' when I notice that the ringing stops, and I'm in no hurry for that. However I'm going to look into some of the new methods I saw here that are claimed to be able to help with it.

I took a peek at that thread that you linked to when I first signed on and it appeared to contain some BS. I'll take another look at it now.

Thanks Glynis, I looked through that chi kung thread and see that some people have claimed to have improved, healed their tinnitus with it so possibly my kind of chi kung isn't the right thing for it. Possibly some systems of medical chi kung would be better. Possibly my tinnitus would be worse if I wasn't doing chi kung, which I have learned is actually ringing in the brain to make up for dead inner ear hair cells.

This is the kind of chi kung that I learned from my master.
