Has Anybody Here Been to a Support Group for Tinnitus?

Just wondering if anybody in the south of England knows of any tinnitus groups or something similar?
My friends or family don't know what tinnitus is like and I don't talk to them much about it. I don't want to just meet up and talk about tinnitus for an hour etc but it might be nice to meet other people with similar struggles.

I went to a local group a few times. I'm afraid it didn't help me, but I'd still encourage you to give it a shot to see if you get any value from it. I didn't feel like I got much value out of it, but that doesn't mean you won't.

 

I went to one here in Miami. There were just as many long-winded people as on the forums here.

@Margaret21: It was at Baptist Hospital. I used to get emails when they were scheduled, but I have not received one in awhile. I checked, and it was disbanded a few years ago.

I ran a support group with another lady for over 3 years and it was weekly and it does help and gave one to one support.

I'm going to attend a tinnitus class and support group for depression in July through Kaiser .

 

@glynis: Do they still have any in the Uk? Maybe I can fly across the “pond”, and attend a good one. Lol

 

@Margaret21: I googled tinnitus groups in Miami. I saw one in Tavernier that meets quarterly. 305-8521620. Also you can contact Jackie Gutstein at tinnitusgroup@att.net. She ran the one at Baptist. Maybe she can help you, if she is still up and running. There might be others. So google T groups in Miami.

I was looking for one in NY, but didn't see it listed.

 

I wish there was one in my area, but knowing my luck they would hold it at a loud bar.

 

@Luman: I was looking at your Tinnitus Today site. ATA they call themselves. They want monthly contributions, name them in your trust or real estate, and such. This Jack Vernon has been burning people since 1971. It sounds like a cult. If you go to one of their meetings, they will block the door with two burly men, until you fork over something .I went to something similar, not T related. I said I’m going to beat the shit out of you guys, if you don’t let me out. They relented. Then one of them came to my house, and I strengthened him. That was the end of that. They are praying on vulnerable people.
