Is this recent? Have you always had this many floaters? Have you seen a retinal specialist? Had any optic tests or imaging done?
I had PVD two years ago. I am in my 30s. Actually, the vitreous is still slowly detaching. It's rare, but it can happen when we're younger. Especially if you're nearsighted.
I was also unable to see for several months. A huge, dark black cloud over my vision. We thought it was from PVD, but now we realize it was optic neuritis. I couldn't drive, couldn't read or watch TV, couldn't take care of my children, couldn't cook or clean, couldn't work. It was awful. Tinnitus is horrible, too, but it's not the same as being blind. I completely sympathize with you on vision problems.
But there are degrees of vision challenges and tinnitus. I'd take mild tinnitus over being blind, and I'd take mild floaters over severe tinnitus. Unfortunately, we don't get to decide so I seem to get a mix of both with severe hearing loss added in.
It's been a gradual increase since about 24 to 28. Last 6-8 months have been more and clumping making ones already there bigger/darker. And oh yes, tons of tests and tons of exams. All fine. Healthy eye and all that.
Interesting you had PVD's at such an age, I think the rate is like 25% chance by 60 they say? Yeah, it is rare for 30's. Positive of a PVD is that it removes floaters from the retina and puts them at a more treatable area for possibly laser, and of course FoV are a bit safer if you already have a PVD.
I'm nearsighted, but very slightly... -2 I believe. I've never actually found a doctor to explain how nearsighted supposedly makes floaters more common. Though, they say "extreme nearsightedness". Which I don't have, and most other young adults on floater websites. Sadly, no research no information, so who knows the cause. Natural, diet, toxins ect..
So sorry to hear about the optic neuritis. I assume it cleared up by itself (or did they facilitate the with drugs?) I can see how someone would think PVD as cause, I heard some get large Weiss rings I believe they're called, which can block a good portion of vision. I have one that's pretty large and dark, absolutely brutal but at least it's not taking up 20% of the vision I suppose (silver lining? lol).
Yeah, it's mixed bag indeed. I think to myself, ok I got tinnitus over one music festival...I can cope. Then, it gets worse...struggle, lots of changes, increases, hyperacusis. Then floaters....then more...then more. I ask myself, how can I be so unlucky to have these types of conditions which are untreatable (I know there's FoV, but the risks are so high).
Really is cruel for some of us in this life. I know others have it worst off, and I try to tell myself it could be worse, but when you feel your issues are so bad as they are, it's hard to be positive and try to compare to others to feel better.
