      Hi there!
My Name is Simon (28) from Germany.

About 3 months ago I had a cold and didn't sleep well for a few nights, when I came home from work one day and my girlfriend wanted to tell me something I was somehow very stressed and there was a beep on one ear. After that the ringing in my head started. It's very high and in the middle of my head.
Since then I'm living in hell.

I can't fall asleep and if I manage to the ringing wakes me up after a few hours during the REM Phase.

My nervous system is so out of control, I'm having that shitty nervous Feeling in my guts all the time and a high pulse. You know that?

I have net had proper sleep for 3 months now, thinking of taking Mirtazapine on a regular Basis now, but I'm not sure about that. I mean, I somehow have to learn to sleep without any help if that noise is gonna stick forever... but I'm so desperate to sleep and get some rest. It seems to be very hard to get some rest, I'm nervous all the time. Trying to tell myself that the noise is just my "inner tone" and it's not dangerous, but still, I can't control my anxiety. I seem to get depressed more and more, I can't sleep and cant enjoy life. I also quit vaping weed as it seemed to make the noise louder. But missing that as well, I used to vape every evening. And that makes mit even more depressed. But I've heard of a guy who used to smoke weed and then got tinnitus and got depressed - then tinnitus went away after 1 year. So I'm afraid to tease my nervous System even more.

So all in all - I turned from a very happy guy who had it all to a total wreck within 3 months, with no end in sight.

What actions can I take? What would you to? Just take that meds for a while? But then getting off is prob. gonna be hard. Would you take ADs? I've read of a guy whose ringing went away by taking Citalopram and Mirtazapine for a few months - the Tinnitus was probably due to stress and Depression. Should I give it a go? But I don't want to take ADs for the rest of my life.

Would you still smoke weed from time to time? I'm off it for 2,5 months now.

What do you think - are there any chances that this is gonna go away? As far as I know most people whose tinnitus faded away had a beep in their ears. Mine is in my head! It has not really faded, maybe it's little bit less that at the beginning.

For God's sake - I'm 28 and this happened so suddenly with no acoustic trauma or so, maybe I had a Little bit of sudden hearing loss? My hearing seems to be good. Maybe just stress? Ahhhh

I started to go for a run every evening and take hot baths, doing PME and humble bee yoga breathing.
I also plan to start with yoga and try cranio sacral therapy. You think that could help a bit?
I watched all videos of Julian Cowan Hill and that gives me hope. Do you think he is trustworthy or just a troll?

My Girlfriend wants me to do some CBT and maybe go a stationary clinic. No sure about that. Very hard to find a therapist and they often seem to to be skilled in tinnitus.

I don't know, it can't stay like that, that is no life! I'm very afraid of my health with no sleep.

      What to do?

Hi Simon. Welcome to hell. :huganimation:I know it's awful, but all the best people are here.

Have you seen a doctor about your ear? Since you didn't have a noise injury, you might want to see if the tinnitus is a symptom of something else that is curable.

Regarding the vape, even if it temporarily makes the tinnitus louder, if it puts you to sleep, it might be worth it. The louder tinnitus might be offset by the effects of the vape.

Hi! Thanks for the warm welcome!

I've been to an ENT who did a hearing test, there was no problem (but my brain noise is at about 12 kHz, don't think they measured this high).

Went to some "Tinnitus-Specialist" and he just said I should stop searching for the reason.

Then went to a neurologist who checked me out. She wanted to do an MRI but I have not done it yet.

I mean, I got "classical" head tinnitus, I can modulate that noise with my jaw etc.
I have heard a lot of cases are idiopathic. What kind of doctor would you suggest?

At some point I was tired of going to doctors.
But it really hurts to not know why I got this. I think it must have been tiredness / stress / a short sudden deafness. Dunno :(

No, he’s a pretty decent guy I’d say. You can skype him and chat which costs roughly £70. Hope you feel better soon x

      • Welcome to the forum. The above quote from you may point toTMJ or somatic tinnitus. Usually these have a definite cause and may have to do with jaws, or shoulder and ncck muscles having something wrong. Some chiropractors specialize on this. You can ask doctors to refer you to see a TMJ specialist.

hearing loss induced tinnitus is also modulatable with neck and jaw movement, but yes it is somatic.
