hi everyone i found this site a couple of weeks ago and it's really helped to know i'm not alone in this no one really understands unless their dealing with it to. i first got T a little over two years ago i had a really bad cold around thanksgiving and was in florida when i flew back to minnesota on the plane my ears refused to pop and all the congestion that was in my throat went up in my ears. a week later my ears finally popped but the sound felt like it was off i went to the doctor and they did a ear irrigation which seemed to help for awhile. my ears are itchy and dry a lot so it helped with that. after about a year i got an ear infection so i went back to the doctor and he said that the T sounds should go away with the infection but it didn't.

i researched a lot about it and everything said that there was nothing that you could really do about it other than live with it and try to ignore it. than at the beginning of october i noticed this low pitched hum when i went into my house from my car i faded after awhile but now has turned into what feels like vibrating in my head mostly the left side it sounds like thunder if that makes sense.

i finally went and saw an audiologist who did a bunch of tests and was very sympathetic but she didn't have any answers about the humming.she said i have no significant hearing loss or damage and although she was very sympathetic she didn't have any answers about the humming.

my T is sometimes worse but right now its the humming noises that are driving me up the wall and my left ear feels blocked a lot

Welcome to the forum. My T is an ultra high pitch dog whistle like a dentist drill with 10 times the pitch. It takes a long while to get used to that crazy alien sound. But repetition of the same stimulus over time has hardened the brain to this sound. Now I don't give a dime to it. I hope you will be able to accept your humming sound over time even if it doesn't fade. You may have to use masking to help the process so you don't feel you are up against the wall with it. Here are some suggestions if you haven't tried masking it yet. Take good care. God bless.

      1) Mask at bed time so you can sleep better. Find whatever sounds/music that are soothing to you. You can use a sound machine or sound pillow for this, or a computer with speakers.

      2) If you need masking on the go, try load an ipod with nature sounds or music using itune. If you have a smart phone, you can download free APPs for soothing or T-masking sounds.

      3) If you have computer and speakers, you can try these excellent masking sounds too:

      TT's audio player: https://www.tinnitustalk.com/audioplayer/

or this online sound library, particularly the self-mix nature sounds: http://mynoise.net/

or download free sound generator ‘aire freshener’: http://www.peterhirschberg.com/mysoftware.html

or search youtube with words like 'tinnitus masking sounds', 'white noise', 'rain sound' etc.
