How to Treat a Cut Outside of Ear in a Tinnitus Safe Way?

I have got a small (tiny) scratch on the helix of my ear, it’s quite sore. I’ve cleaned it with warm water, however I'm wondering if I should put some sort of cream on it to prevent it from getting getting dirty or worse, infected.

Has anyone got any suggestions for the safest type of cream or should I just leave it and not worry about it? It is a tiny scratch and hardly worth worrying about really, although with it being in my ear I’m obviously more concerned than If it were to be on my knee or arm.

Hydrogen peroxide on a q-tip should be fine by your description.

 

Thanks for your reply. I don’t have any of this. I have Savlon which is an antiseptic cream. Will this be safe?

 

I wouldn't worry too much. But like @FGG said, you can clean it with a little hydrogen peroxide on a q-tip.
If you are concern with infections, you can try a triple antibiotic ointment.

 

Not sure. Probably, but I am not at all familiar with this product nor Cetrimide which is an ingredient.

 

I personally wouldn't use this (but this is just my opinion). It's likely fine with superficial cuts but Neomycin is extremely ototoxic and can be absorbed systemically with deeper cuts.

 

But neomycin is highly ototoxic. In theory just when it comes into contact with a perforated eardrum, but I would not put it anywhere near my ears. I developed the high pitch after using neomycin ointment for 2 days on a totally different body part. It can be a total coincidence, because I have used the same cream without a problem in the past, and can actually think of at least 4 other possible causes, but if not in a serious condition, I wouldn't use neomycin.

I've used this for all cuts and scrapes since I have tinnitus without affecting it.
But we are all different.

No I saw that and I mentioned it was fine with small cuts but I personally wouldn't use it because it is known to be extremely ototoxic (even topically with deep cuts). Neosporin is common but it's far from the only topical antibiotic you can use, it's just the best marketed. It's not essential to use it so I don't and wouldn't. Again just my opinion.
