I Knew I Was Going to Regret It...

I just went with a close friend whom I haven't met in some time to an October fest, which by the way is completely normal from May through October here in Tokyo. There was a loud Bavarian band playing and I wore my ear plugs the whole time, but my T is real loud now... I hope it will calm down, but I have a feeling that I will have a really scary spike sometime tonight...

I just want some encouraging words, I guess. I always try to stay positive but this time I'm scared. I can't just sit at home all the time either, never going out...

 

Something very similar happened to me. After a night of loud music I had a VERY bad spike. I put cotton in my ears just to protect them from any surprises. After a couple years it settled down to my normal hiss and eeeeee sound. So I guess my ears wanted to heal, and did for the most part.

 

Hi Daniel, your tinnitus will get louder and quieter; mine is also reactive but it settles again. If you think you're going to have a spike then you're more likely to, so try to relax and distract yourself from it.

You're right, you can't stay at home forever and Tokyo sounds like great fun. Enjoy it!

 

Daniel after I got T 4 years ago I never trusted ear plugs again I went to a club with hearing protection and it didnt make a difference at all.Since then I never went anywhere loud again but of course there was a birthday party or two I had to attend where the music would be quite loud.I would trust my ear to tell me if things were loud and leave if it was.Would never stay longer than 15minutes if I felt it was too loud.Of course there would be a T spike when I got home which was my ears way of saying you were right it was too loud but this would always disappear within a few hours and im sure yours will too.Eventually I got tired of never socialising so if I had a birthday party to attend I would simply talk and chat with people away from any loud music that might be playing and still have a great night with zero T issues when I got home.If I went to a bar and it was full of shouting drunks I would enjoy my drink outside with my friends in a quiet environment and still have a great night.

 

if you inserted the plugs correctly in your ear canals, there's nothing to worry, it's certainly the excess of booze spiking those damn neurons

My T did spike, but not as badly as I thought. Now in the morning it's back to "normal". I will get used to this and not let it stop me from hanging out with my friends.
