This why we need a treatment that works. These devices seem like hit or miss. But he was suffering, so I am happy he can finally get the silent he deserves.

No one deserves to suffer 24/7 the way he did. He always talked how severe his tinnitus was. Tinnitus needs to be taken more seriously.

May God give Allan peace that he seeked.

I just read this and it made me weep. Whilst I have just joined Tinnitus Talk, I don't know who Allan is and how much he must have meant to all of you, this saddens me so much.

Sorry I’m not the best at saying much in these sad events.

 

It’s desperately sad and devastating news. Can imagine the torment Allan went through and now his family are suffering too.

Life is so precious and hope whatever the circumstances are, we look after ourselves and others too. There has to be more support and empathy.

 

I can no longer add anything new to what everyone has said in the thread. I didn't want to get into this thread because I was still in shock. This is not fair. This is not fair. This is not fair. It’s not fair.

I feel so bad about Allan. But also happy if this is what he wanted and if he is calm and in peace now. But all the suffering he’s been through was bad. I can't explain. I think I understand perfectly what he experienced in the last months. I wish I could have helped him... He was suffering so much and was in terrible pain, like most of us, but even more...

I hope you are in peace now. You will always be remembered.

 

I rarely post here but had to say something. So Sorry Allan that you had to endure the torture of severe tinnitus. This breaks my heart, may you rest in peace.

 

Are the BTA aware of Allan's passing? He posted on their Facebook page quite frequently and had a Top Fan designation for a while. Allan had a way with words. I liked the way he advocated for research and pointed out the obvious answers to BTA's proposed studies. I will miss that.

I also find it interesting that no one has come forward to help the Tinnitus Talk community deal with the grief some of us must be feeling.

Where are the psychologists when you actually need them? Have they at least made an inquiry if we are alright?

I don't know the circumstances of his passing and only suspect it was related to his tinnitus. He obviously struggled but at the same time did everything a sufferer can do to ease the struggles.

At the moment I see only failure on the part of the NHS and the BTA. Shame on you. You need to do better. That's what Allan was asking of you.

Yeah I think this is spot on.
Words are nice but in the end they don’t fix the issue.

Some people cope better than others I guess.

 

Allan suffered unbelievably.

I suffer unbelievably.
All of us with ‘severe’ tinnitus suffer unbelievably.

I use the word ‘Unbelievably’ because nobody without this condition has any idea of the pain of noise we have to bear.

We can tell people, our doctors, our friends, our partners even, and they can be sympathetic, empathic even, but of course, they can never truly ‘know.’

The loneliest condition in the world.

Perhaps the only thing we can do is
‘hold each other’s hand.’

 

I've wondered the same about Neuromod because I believe Allan was still effectively a patient of theirs.

Probably. And I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that everyone has shown great restraint but I believe as a community we need to know the circumstances of Allan's passing.

 

For the past 2 years, I too have thought about suicide every single day. My tinnitus and hyperacusis is severely worse... to the point I know live in isolation. I know the struggles of anyone with these conditions. Still I am very sad to hear of his passing.

Rest in Peace Allan, I hope you are somewhere in a world far removed from these maladies.

This is very true. He always sounded very polite and decent.

 

I've been hesitant about pronouncing myself in this thread as I always feel really awkward at communicating my ideas and feelings. Besides English not being my first language but one I've fully learned by myself.

Allan's decision is one that I know is filling many of us with multiple and rough feelings. We who are battling the battle every single day know better than anyone not only what severe tinnitus means but what losing a member of our community is. It has a tremendous impact on our moods. The climbing becomes harder. I fully respect and understand his choice as the idea of giving up is part of my constant reality. I just canät accept it has been caused by something whose answers should be closer by now. I deny the existence of such a twisted event as this severe tinnitus is.

My heart goes out to the family. My heart goes out to Allan and every second of his experience as a human being. My hugs go to every member of this community fighting this fight.

 

Indeed, to God we belong and to God we shall return.
