A gone missing notice! My tinnitus and hearing are getting worse and I seem to have lost my HOPE.

Any idea how I can find it or a replacement. Finding life very difficult without it.

Sometimes people forget about the things they used to love in life. Things that used to make them happy, because they dropped everything and focused on their tinnitus.

Try to reconnect with something you love. Don't just think about it. Like art? Get in front of it. Like photography, get a camera and put it in your hands. Force yourself if you have to.

I know the sadness can make it hard to take that first step. But many times joy is like loop. You have to start it, and each step you take, you will get a little something back. A reminder that there are things you still love in life and and you just need to take that step to reconnect and find it again.

Hopelessness is like your mind is put in this dark box and it cant set itself free. you have to be proactive about it. it won't come to you just by thinking about it. Move. Go. Physically put your body in a better place. Eventually your mind will react in a positive way.

Just push yourself to take those first steps.

Thank you Sean. I’ve had T since 1992 and had habituated well. This time it’s really difficult. I work part time, I’m a Counselling Therapist, but this morning felt bleak.
Living alone now doesn’t help but I agree with what you say.
Ok, hope is not lost then, just gone walk about for a while x

      Aww @Nanny chocolate ,
You are such a lovely warm caring person and sorry to hear your tinnitus and hearing is getting worse.
I think the change in weather can do it for some people and winter blues can set in.
Try keep relaxing music or uplifting music on around you or the tv even if carn't concentrate alot it will cause some distraction.
Flowers around the house in winter can lift your mood and some nice perfume on.
Hearing aids and maskers can be of help for some people.
Even though I have a staff badge im always glad have you all as friends and welcome pm me anytime just for a friendly message or support.
Don't loose hope as we never know what's around the corner and it's the small things that matter too.
Chin up duck and we are all here for you and hope your day gets a little better.
      love glynis x

You’re a beautiful soul, Nanny. I’m saddened to hear you’re still struggling and wish I could do more to help. Maybe the neuromod/mute button could help you?

You could try and break the stranglehold it has on you by doing something outrageously daring. A bit of a naturally induced adrenaline rush may help somewhat, and maybe planning such an event could help take your mind off it as well. You could do something for charity, maybe? You could also try swimming in cold water; this is proven to help our mental health.

I hope things improve for you, I really do.

I completely understand. Ive lived alone for about 6 years now. my family has passed. no SO. its incredibly tough as it takes a lot of will to keep oneself together. what gets me through these times is reminding myself over and over again to focus on the future. Make a better tomorrow. Plan out that future and hit each mark one at a time.

@Nanny chocolate As you know I cannot offer platitudes as this shit is brutal. I feel like I’m living in a warzone armed only with the tinny patter of fake rain through a crappy sound machine.

But please don’t give up before you post me your tights. I need to rob a bank to afford hearing aids.....and lunch.

You’ve had ‘T’ almost as long as me, so I imagine you’ve tried about everything.

      My meditation keeps things manageable,
      and keeps me (relatively) sane.

      It makes quite a difference.

      Very best wishes

@Nanny chocolate You have lived with this beast for ages and you must be made of some strong stuff.
Allow yourself to feel sad and cry...its a great release !
There will be a better day.
I too am in Devon and I have just been for a walk in the beautiful sun...despite my ears screeching.
I find it helps a lot.
Hope tomorrow is better for you

For us elderly with tinnitus and hearing loss from extensive study:
Search - 'Hearing in the elderly'.
Top advice is too avoid loud noise even more so than being younger.
Eat foods with folic acid, magnesium, vitamin C & some D.
C has not been proven to help men over 60, but it has for females.
      Avoid strong chemicals.
      Teeth should not rest together.

Hi Greg, less of the elderly please unless you want to induce more crying!
Thank you for your advice. I’m going to see my GP tomorrow to see if there is infection causing the pain and blocked ears. 2 weeks ago my hospital hearing therapist pronounced that things were looking good. Duh, that’s always a prediction for disaster on the horizon.

Tinnitus does not play fair, at all, ever.

I am truly sorry to hear that you are struggling, Nanny Chocolate. :huganimation:I am thinking that perhaps the cold has a part to play when it comes to your pain and blocked ears. I am dreading cold and flu season, in fact this will be the first time in several years that I will go ahead and get the flu shot.

Here's hoping that once you start feeling better your spirits will lift some, also.

Hi Emmalee, you are right, T doesn’t play fair. It’s being especially nasty and brutal just now. I’ve tried so many things to make it play a bit nicer but to no avail.
Yes, you get your flu jab and protect yourself. Thank you for your kindness.

      Hi John
No loud sounds at all. Who knows why, I’ve had a cold and blocked painful ears but T is searing.
Like a lot of us it’s made me very depressed as it’s endless.

      When you folks say:
      “My Tinnitus is louder.”

      “It’s getting much worse.”

      “It’s spiked.” etc....

      - are you going on ‘perception,’

I don’t measure decibels, don’t know how to. I go by the number of noises, the perceived loudness, it goes into my head and my type of T has movement. It’s hard to explain as it’s not musical T. The type of noise can change too and become more shrill, a discordant piano joins in too. Hard to believe!

      @Nanny chocolate ,
I'm feeling low at the moment, had a lot going on test wise and I should be happy with the outcome as it's liveable with meds and diet changes and discharged from consultant yesterday.
Had a chest infection for two weeks and waiting on chest xrays results and bloods to see if it's clearing so can have flu jab.
I think life it a road of ups and downs and we need time to get our strength back and feel better and ears behave better.
Grandsons have been down tonight and they are a ray of sunshine.
Looking forward to a good night sleep.
