I know for some it makes it worse or even causes it, but for myself, it's so much quieter after taking modafinil. There's some other drugs (which I can't mention) that work similarly for me. It seems like there is no cure or treatment that will work for everyone, presumably because there are many different causes of tinnitus. What makes it better in one person, can make it worse in another.

My type of tinnitus is a constant white noise. Not unbearable, but a damn nuisance. The volume varies from one day to the next for no apparent reason but I have noticed a consistent improvement on days I take modafinil. I don't think it's a cure as such but for myself at least, it works as a treatment.

Nope. Except when I take modafinil, makes it a lot harder to sleep at night even I take it in the morning.

If anything, it should make it worse since it speeds up the neurons. Took it a few times and it felt like I drank 5 cups of coffee.

Glad you found something that helps, though.

Maybe I should be drinking more coffee! I find the volume of white noise is worse when I'm tired, so maybe for me at least the tinnitus cause is related to energy levels.

No idea. Began about 6 years ago. At that time I noticed what I thought was the "sound of silence". If there was absolute silence, I could hear a faint white noise in the background. Didn't realise it was a thing until it gradually got worse over a period of years. I know now of course it is very much a "thing". Varies from day to day from barely discernible to an almost deafening roar of static. Doesn't bother me overly as I'm used to it. Cant watch a movie without subtitles though and sometimes have trouble using the phone.

But when I get a respite, like from modafinil (et al), it is a blessed relief, just to know what quiet is.

Did you have many side effects taking modafinil? I'm glad that it has given you some relief.
