While I am new to this forum, I am definitely not new to Tinnitus. I have had it for about five years and it has been the most challenging five years of my life. The good news is that I am better now. I still have Tinnitus, but it doesn’t bother me anymore. As a result, I decided this weekend to share my journey with people by doing a series of YouTube videos. I created my first one yesterday; you can find it here:

My goal is to help people that are suffering in some small way and give them hope. Ultimately, I'm glad I've come out on the other side, since it was really rough on me and at times I didn’t know how things would turn out. Today, I am better, and not just better in terms of Tinnitus. I'm better in general and, in many ways, I actually have Tinnitus to thank for most of that.

Well said Sean. I have also habituated to my tinnitus, so your video resonated with me. I also think that the fear we put into our minds - especially in the early days - delays this process and keeps us fixated on the noise we hear. It’s so easy to get caught in a vicious cycle of noise, panic, spike, that we dig ourselves a deeper and deeper hole. Ultimately, metaphorically speaking, we end up needing a bigger and bigger ladder to get ourselves out of the hole we dig for ourselves.

Good job, and well done for sharing your experience with others who may not be feeling so good. Hope and positive stories are always good to hear.

Thanks, Sean. Seeing and hearing a person such as yourself, who's had a difficult case of tinnitus, say that it no longer bothers them, is very powerful and inspiring message to those of us who are working towards that goal. When you can find the time to make more videos, I'm sure they'll be appreciated as well.

I agree, as most will adjust. With my first onset of severe T & H, I was finally able to pull thru and live a good life.

For about 10% with physical tinnitus they may have trigeminal neuralgia, oromandibular dystonic, serious injury, multiple physical complications or disease that goes beyond loudness. Many with these issues don't post. My heart goes out to these people, but they should never give up as there could be medications and treatment available that will help. Coping techniques to relax the mouth and mindfulness could help.

      Hi Everyone,

I put this audio/video together where I talk about tinnitus and fear. Fear has played a big role in my journey with tinnitus but I am learning to work with it.

Please don't let the word fear stop you from listening, it's not scary.

I hope this helps some of you.

Thank you so much for doing this Sean.

Your approach is very similar to my own.
When my tinnitus turned nasty, nearly five years ago now, I was in such total hell that I did not know how I could survive the single moment that I was living in.
The volume hasn’t reduced, but my experience of tinnitus is way different.

With the practice of a ‘Warm Bath Meditation’ every morning, where my physical comfort is maximised, I ask my tummy to look after my breathing for me, and in seconds I am at peace.
Later in the day, if my tinnitus gets troublesome, I just ask my tummy for help once again, my breathing returns to a shallow and peaceful mode, and I’m okay once again.

      “Easy Dave just breath easy.”

      Thanks again,
      please keep these talks coming,
      Dave x

      Hi Everyone,

This is a short audio/video I did today about being thankful. There is so much to be thankful for
even though our tinnitus can really get in the way.

I hope some of you find it helpful.

Thankful for so Much! Even with Tinnitus.

I'd appreciate it if you worded your advice a bit more carefully. For many severe sufferers, the reality is that they can't do many things anymore, such as working, travelling or going to shows. There are many who are truly disabled by tinnitus. So while I see the value in you spreading hope and support, you're spreading an image of tinnitus that's not representative of the whole spectrum.

Reminds me of the old forum I came from. They gave me that message for 18 months, but yet I kept on suffering. I think it is horseshit that you suffer more by frequenting Tinnitus Talk vs that that one because here people spread more doom & gloom.

If it were simply a mental matter to get passed I think I would have accomplished it and you would not have folks that suffer for years and years. I am all for positive messages but failing that it helps you can lead to further demoralization.

I cannot please everyone and certainly cannot relate to anyone's particular experience with tinnitus, only my own. I can say that I have suffered greatly from tinnitus and put myself out there to try to offer help to whomever I can, even if that is only 1 person, it is worth it, and I can assure you I have hit my goal.

As far putting out an image that is not representative of the whole tinnitus spectrum, of course I can't do that, that is a ridiculous idea, who possibly could, can you?

I can only offer what I have to offer. I can tell you that I have spent many hours on the phone with complete strangers that have reached out to me and are on the very edge, and I think you know what I mean by that, so I certainly have a very good understanding of how devastating tinnitus can be.

If you don't like my videos simply don't watch them. And if you have a message that can offer help or hope to people I suggest you put pen to paper or pick up your phone and do a video and put it out there.

And put yourself out there, so easy to hide behind the words of a forum. This is why you will very rarely see me post any reply, if I was to be doing this all day I would not have time to offer help to those who need it. Good luck.
