I saw a doctor today. I was trying to get more prednisone. The doctor banged some metal object against his desk, causing it to vibrate. Then he surprised me by pressing it against my forehead, and asking me where I heard it.

Now I am again experiencing ear fullness. It is very bad.

I suspect that it was that test that did this to me. If I can find out the name of the test, I can try to research what it can do to ears, and whether it can cause a permanent T spike. Would anyone know the name of this test?

Another thing that happened is that after she learned that I was suffering from recent acoustic trauma, the nurse left the room and slammed the door behind her with a super loud bang. As I saw the door about to be slammed, I threw myself towards it, trying to prevent it from slamming, but I was too late. I made it worse for myself, as I got closer to the source of the bang... I had an earplug in, and I had been around slamming doors before, so I still think it was the forehead test that messed me up.

      What a nightmare! A never-ending nightmare...

I think it's a Weber test. The Rinne is often done along with the Weber test.

      It was a "walk-in clinic".

I guess the doctor was trying to test whether I had any hearing loss.

      Thank you @PaulBe and @TuneOut !

I feel better, but I am still not feeling as good as I felt before my doctor's visit.

I will look into the impact of this test on someone like us.

      These are very common tests.
The slamming of the door, on the other hand... isn't necessary!

You really have to go from being a caregiver to being an end user to begin to understand just how uncaring carers can be. Its unpleasant to recognize in yourself just what an arsehole you probably were at times in the past to people who were really relying on you for help.

Did they end up giving you more Prednisone or they refused?

The first doctor I saw (back in February) gave 7 pills to me. The next doctor (this month) gave me 6 pills. This one gave me 5 pills...

      What is it?!

I am considering getting my mom to start making the rounds of those walk-in clinics with the story of taking too long to take the batteries out of a screaming home fire alarm.

Do you have a general doctor or an ENT that you consistently see? If you were an established patient, perhaps in the future they could call in a prednisone prescription to a pharmacy when you needed.

After I got only a 7-day supply of prednisone at the emergency, my First reaction was to go to my family doctor. He wouldn't give prednisone to me. He knew I was going to see an ENT in a couple of days, and he said that if I needed prednisone, my ENT would give it to me.

The ENT refused to give prednisone to me. It is possible that this happened because when he welcomed me into his office, he asked "How are you?" and I burst into tears. He may have felt that I was already a little stressed. Surprisingly, he wasn't interested in ensuring that I won't have a source of stress for the rest of my life. At the time, I knew less about prednisone that I do now, and I didn't try to insist on him giving me another 7-day supply, so that I could complete the standard 14-day course of prednisone.

I got 3 prednisone prescriptions over the past 4 months, and all of them are marked "no refills".

Are you saying that there are online pharmacies that sell prednisone without a prescription?

Or could one travel to another country, to buy whatever one wants without a prescription? But in this case, isn't there a high chance that some of it may get confiscated at the border on the way back? What country would you recommend?

Yes. I just ordered and received a 3-month supply of paxil from Turkey. There are also places in India and other countries. Alldaychemist is a good one from India but they don't sell corticosteroids. Aurapharm is one that has prednisolone. There are reputable pharmacies out there but you have to do your research.

Maybe be careful about taking unprescribed prednisone :).

There is usually a reason these meds are not renewable. I understand you think they may help but can you find a different ent to work with.

I live in Canada. I was able to see the first ENT because I was willing to drive 2 hours to a small town. Back in February, my family doctor made a request for me to be seen by another ENT in my town. My family doctor warned me that because my complaint is tinnitus (so - not urgent), it might take a long time before an appointment is scheduled for me. I am still waiting. So I am in the process of finding a different ENT. Keeping my fingers crossed to see him or her in 2017.

Not much difference in rural US either - it took 2 months to get in after referral with dizziness. MRI has taken forever. Dr also mentioned seeing a neuro but there basically is none for the insurance. An hour away in each direction with one group only accepting residents of that county and the other so overbooked their not taking new appts. Take care.

I think in many rural areas health care is imploding. Not enough drs and ins that few will take. Not much better in urban areas but with higher income patients and bigger populations there is greater access to facilities. Years ago in a large metropolitan area it still took months to see a rheumatologist. But at least there were some.
