Well, I guess Dexy's midnight runners is the kind of band that brings generations together (y). If only Kevin Rowland had the time to see this correspondence about his music being timeless on a regular tinnitus forum, he would be absolutely o_O

I wasn't interested in 80s pop/rock at first. My brother grew up in the 80's and introduced me to 80's Brit pop and new wave when I was about 12 years old. I can still remember as if it was yesterday: we listened to Visage's ''Fade to grey'', I knew right then that I was instantly hooked to that kind of music. The love for britpop and new wave hasn't faded since that very moment.

I was singing the song to myself in my head as I lay sleeping last night. It was as if it was on autoplay.

Maybe this will be my way to enjoy music from now on?

Knowing my luck it will be found in future research that replaying songs in one's head leads to brain cell death and worsening tinnitus:arghh:

Maybe you're developing musical tinnitus? It's a weird story, but I've heard that some people hear songs all day long after noise trauma. Come on Eileen sounds more pleasant to have than the sound of an airplane or a train that is consistently hitting the breaks o_O .

No, it's just me singing it to myself.

My dad told me he when he first got tinnitus he thought he could hear a band playing sometimes. And then, on one or two occasions I heard music for a few seconds, like a band playing far away. Also, I used to hear the vacuum sometimes at night, i.e. 2 or 3 in the morning, when obviously no one was vacuuming.

      Hasn't happened again since.

Next round: German industrial rock. The Germans call it Neue Deutsche Härte. The genre was quite popular in the mid 80's all the way to 00's. NDH bands use a mix of electric guitars, bass guitars, drums, keyboard, and the most important chemical ingredient: deep, dark & masculine vocals. Viel Spaß, kleine Kinder;)

Throwback 90's/00's. Let your ears be spoiled with music from the Emerald Isle. Yes, I'm talking about Ireland! It's would be way too easy to put a U2 song in this thread. So instead of that, I will focus on other bands & artists who totally deserve an honourable mention.

Funny, I've just seen this. I was having a nostalgic moment the other day and listened to Madness.

When I was a 12-13 Madness were big and always on our TVs so I grew up with them as part of the soundtrack to my formative years.

Next stop: Scandinavian Bubblegum pop. It was back in the 90's when bands like Aqua and Toybox enriched our once healthy ears by playing upbeat music, accompanied by a female singer who sings with a high squeaky note and a male singer who sings with an uber masculine bass voice.

I can still remember a lot of the lyrics of some of their songs, because my sisters drove me absolutely nuts in my younger years by playing this kind of music 24/7 on a loud volume in their bedrooms, so there was no escape in that little row house of ours. Ah, those were the days.....

Anyway, enjoy the music and don't forget to ooh, ie, ooh, ah, ah, ting, tang, walla, walla, bing bang;)

Once again, one of the bands that changed the way I "look" at music. The National is an awesome band with beautifull music and tremendous lyrics. As another of my favourite bands around, Interpol.

      @Vassili

So glad to see Phil Anselmo in these boards. Younger I was an absolute fan of Pantera and one of my dreams came to reality when I had the tremendous honor to make the opening in one of their shows here in France (Lyon). I shared a beer (and smoked some illicit stuff ;)) with Pantera and talked "drums technique" with Vinnie Paul...I guess I can die now :)

Alizee! She's the one who introduced me to the world of French dance pop;) I still remember that I was playing with toys in my sister's room back when I was a kid in 2001, while MTV was on in the background. I immediately stopped playing when I heard the song ''Moi ... Lolita'' by Alizee and listened to it all the way, as if I was trance. I thought the language was so incredibly beautiful + the dance music was damn tasty to listen to. I couldn't comprehend all of it, but from that moment on I decided to learn French to gain a better understanding of the lyrics

      Here's the clip btw.

I watched the other video you posted today. It's from listening to her that I may start learning French (after I have passed some more Russian exams).

She reminds me greatly of my wife when I first met her; both her looks and style.

My one year old wandered into the room where I was watching the video I posted. He stood transfixed by both Alizee and the song. It was wonderful to watch. He maybe thought it was his mother:)

In 2001 I was already in my 30s:p

Your wife looks like Alizee? Nom de dieu! You lucky son of a gun:)

Have you also thought about learning languages in a quick and efficient way? I came across Luca Lampariello's page on YouTube. He's a polyglot who knows how to get a lot of languages under the belt:

How to Learn Grammar: The Only Method...

And here's a link to a video of the Lyrics Training App. It's very nifty if you ever want to upgrade your French in a easy & approachable way. And you can start right off by checking out Alizee's songs;) You can learn lyrics while also training your language skills in small digestible bits:

I used to have quite a few Sonic Youth albums. I really wanted to like them, but deep down i didn't. Their music did little for me.
