Cause of Tinnitus
Headset?
Around the start of October I noticed a eeeeeeee ringing ONLY in my right ear, and that when I sleep with my left ear on the pillar I believe I then hear the ringing in my left ear ONLY. I have gone to the doctors and I was told that it could be an ear infection and if the ringing is still their see the doctor again in which I did. When I saw the doctor again she said it could be a number of reasons for this but can also be cancer.

I suffer from very bad depression and anxiety (which is making feel very ill) and I am fearing the worst........ I am seeing the EMT specialist this Friday and I am very scared.

I don't suffer from strong headaches or loss of sight or dizziness but I have had a cold for months now in which I can never get rid off sometimes its bad other days its fine

Whats your thoughts on this people?

Elliott,

In my opinion, the chance that you have cancer is very unlikely. What is more likely is that you've done some damage to your ears, especially your right ear, from using the headset and the cellphone. You could have some high-pitched hearing loss that the doctor can detect with an audiogram test.

Please don't worry; if that is what you have, there are many ways to cope with tinnitus and hearing loss. I have hearing loss and tinnitus in my right ear, too. At first, it was really loud and hard to deal with. Now, however, I've gotten more used to it, and if I keep myself busy, I can mostly forget about it during the day.

Take care, don't worry, and please update us on what your ENT has to say.

Best wishes,
Karen

Thank you for the kind words Karen,

Yes I will make sure to update this post on Friday even if the worst happens. Is their any reason why I can only hear the ringing in my right ear? even tho I have been wearing headsets for +6 years I would of that it would effect both which is another reason why I am very scared.

Elliott,

Your right ear could just be more sensitive to noise than your left ear, and also, you noted that you use your right ear with your cellphone. It's hard to say, but that seems the mostly likely reason to me. And don't worry: Tinnitus is not a life-threatening condition, except that it can be very irritating and anxiety-producing. But you can, in time, get more used to the noise.

I think it's interesting what Hariz says about using our left ear for talking on the phone. I now have to use my left ear, because my right ear is the one with the hearing loss and tinnitus. It's good to know that it might actually pick up more lower-frequency sounds. So, I guess that's a plus!

Take care, and keep us posted on how you're doing.

Ok so went to the EMT appointment and all is well (thank God), the doctor said it is due to me listening to loud music with headphones on, my jaw slightly out of line and that I grind my teeth while I sleep which are most likely causing the ringing

Hi Elliot,
Glad to hear you had good news today.
Anxiety and depression is hard going and just as bad as the sound.
I know you mentioned antidepressants but hope your having talking therapy too to support you.
I was once a sad teary eyed withdrawn person looking back at my self in a mirror and telling my self please help me as the feelings were overwhelming and did not want get out of bed.
I did not want eat and feared being alone and all this was the depression taking over.
Well look at me now,
My happy bubbly confident self is back and laughing lots and smiling all the time.
I had to battle Menieres, severe Bilateral tinnitus and severe asthmatic under a consultant and severe asthma unit and each one for life.
I promise you,you will get back on track with help and your confidence will grow and look forward to a much better happier future....lots of love glynis

I will be starting CBT after Christmas. I suffer depression/anxiety for 7+ years and just last year my brother went for CBT and now he is a changed person, I only hope I can change and feel positive in life once again

Hi @Elliot
I am relatively new to T, so can't advise you too much, but know exactly how you feel. There are many wise experienced people on here who will be in touch and definitely will help. In the meantime check out the success stories, they certainly helped me, also https://www.tinnitustalk.com/threads/back-to-silence.7172. We have started a support group in Blackpool which meets every 3 months. Hope this helps. Regards Phil
