      Hi,

I have had severe cough and cold for 8 days.

I tried many home remedies and saline spray and nasal decongestant.

None of them worked so took Robitussin.

I have had tinnitus for a year. I thought my anxiety and my calmness is there in spite of tinnitus.

But the sound I got in the night was insane. I couldn’t hear anything in my left ear except tinnitus. I couldn’t tolerate the sound. I was getting a headache and then started my panic attack. I started crying uncontrollably. I was scared if my water will break as I am 36 weeks pregnant. I couldn’t even control my panic. I was just walking, drinking water, tried breathing but nothing calmed me down during those dark hours.

I know a cough and cold can increase tinnitus but I have had a cough and cold for 8 days, yet it only spiked last night before sleeping.

I took the Robitussin. Can that have any effect on tinnitus? I am scared to take it again.

I don't know about potential ototoxicity of Robitussin and couldn't find any hints on the internet either. What I did find though was a warning not to take Robitussin when pregnant because it can interfere with fetal brain development!

Last month I caught my first cold since getting T 8 years ago. My T spiked 3 days BEFORE I even realized I had a cold, about Nov 29.. Had the cold approx Dec 3 to Dec 10. I took Robitussin CF for the entire time, probably 7 day. Since I already had the spike since before taking Robitussin, it had no effect. But the spike began 5 weeks ago and the cold is long gone but the spike remains. I have good days and bad. Some days I think I am back to my baseline T and I go to sleep that way but wake up to a high hiss. . Some days I have a bad day from rising to sleep. I've read on these boards and others that ears are the last to clear and can take many many weeks, even months. Yesterday was good from 2pm to sleep. But today I awoke to the hissing spike again. I'm using a personal steam vaporizer that fits on your face and used Flonase for 2 weeks but stopped last Friday since I didn't want to stay on a steroid spray too long. Now just steam and Benadryl. As I said, good days and then bad. Hoping it settles down eventually. More than likely your spike is the cold itself, not the Robitussin.

What I take and give my family when there's a first sign of a cold/flu is Silver Colloidal and so far so good. Steam inhalations, cough drops, extra vitamin c and zinc and of course lots of chicken soup and tea with lemon and honey. :) I hope you start to feel better soon and hopefully the spike will calm down. No one can say for sure whether the Robitussin caused the spike or not. With time you will eventually figure out what things give you spikes or not. If you feel nervous about taking it then don't take it because it will stress you more.

Take care of that precious baby and yourself.

Ok. Maybe tinnitus spiked before but I noticed the most on the night I have taken the med. Could be a coincidence.

I have had tinnitus for one year and I have been really calm in spite of tinnitus as my calmness matters but the kind of sound I experienced felt like a living nightmare. I hope it goes to baseline. I hope yours goes to baseline.

Did every ones return to baseline? I have had flu like symptoms that turned into bronchitis. Spike has been here for about 2 weeks... worried its the new norm, although i still have a lingering cough. Did it go back down to baseline?!

I have a cough and cold. I have had it for a week now at least. My tinnitus has been in a constant spike. I have taken a few advils only because my headaches weren't going away on their own and were becoming unbearable.

I don't think a Robitussin will be a problem. I agree with what Arjay said. It's probably the cold itself.

But, we are always guessing about everything.
