Severe Tinnitus Cured at Terrible Cost by DXM Found in Cough Syrup

The chemical DXM found in cough syrup has completely cured my high pitched tinnitus (drank a whole bottle).

Unfortunately, I was found with no pulse and rushed to the hospital.

It also made me think that the doctors were out to get me.

In addition I cannot pee.

If any proof is required I can post pictures of myself on the floor after taking the DXM or at the hospital with breathing tubes in.

Are you assuming DXM is ototoxic from those two reported cases? Are you saying that no other factors could have been behind their tinnitus?

Do you realise you need 32 samples for a test to be significant. Granted you do have the Z test.

Regarding peer reviewed journals DXM is an NDMA antagonist, more potent than Ketamine.

Your link is about Dexamethasone, not Dextromethorphan. “DXM” from cough syrup is Dextromethorphan.

I will not waste time stating that I noticed the second links mistake and thought I made a correction post.

The article lists them as NDMA antagonist. With dextromethorphan being more potent.

I understand just because one drug works does not mean the other drug will work.

Granted , that was not the reason for me taking the drug.

The reason was that being in Euphoria state helped deal with the tinnitus.

To repeat I am just repeating what my experience was with the drug and how it reduced my tinnitus for a brief time. Sadly, once the drug was stopped the tinnitus went back to baseline and the side effects are not worth the risk (I died for 5 minutes).

Hell maybe being dead for five minutes rebooted my brain pathways.

Bit worried about you, whether you're a genuine person who keeps attempting suicide or someone who comes onto medical boards to lie about it. Either is very worrying behaviour.

 

Doctor recommended that I take a sleeping aid.

Started on a small dosage. Worked well.

Many people stated it worked better at higher dosage and was safe.

Turns out I am slightly allergic and my throat was swollen shut.

Luckily my mother found me the next day on the ground.

 

Absolutely - you didn't notice your Tinnitus because you were high as hell on a whole bottle of cough syrup. This is a well known form of substance abuse, particularly amongst teenagers, and carries a risk of overdose - as with all drug abuse.

You are right not to recommend this to other people, it's crazy dangerous.

I am pleased to note that you are relieved you did not die - so perhaps you can remember this if you feel tempted to take your life in future.

I don't believe JC, or anybody else, ever came back from the dead, an there's not a single shred of scientific evidence that can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that such a thing has ever happened.

The fact remains that my tinnitus has changed from being loud high pitched to moderate low pitch after DXM.

The problem is finding the catalyst that resulted in that change.

It could have been the DXM. Because it is an NDMA antagonist that it as potent as Ketamine.

Because my family stated that I died it could have been the adrenaline that was injected into my body.

Granted, I see no evidence that this actually occured.

Brain rebooting theory is implausible.

If I was dead than I was clinically dead and not brain dead.

I was also on an IV drip.

However, considering this is just saline people would be drinking salt water by the gallon if it helped.

I might be habituating to the condition but that would not explain being able to mask the tinnitus at a sound less than 37 dB.

Lastly, maybe being in coma let my body heal at at an accelerated rate.

So, while there are reasons as to why my tinnitus decreased I am betting on the NDMA antagonist.

However, I advise against taking DXM as safer NDMA antagonist such as taurine exists.

That was one of my theories but I was clinically dead, not brain dead.

Clinically dead is where you are not breathing and your heart stops.

Brain dead is where no electrical signals exist.

I read on a Reddit thread someone suggesting taking a whippet drug.

His explanation was like whacking a static TV.

I doubt it will work.

Regardless, I still advise people try Taurine and not DXM.

DXM is overkill.

Let's just say I can now block it out using a white noise machine below 37 dB.

There isn't enough DXM in one bottle to cause much beyond an introductory-level experience; it's less than 400mg of DXM, and recreational users/abusers routinely take five times that much. When idiots did this in high school (of which I may have been one, once or twice) a bottle plus was usually the minimum quantity consumed. Some really enterprising kids in even used my high school chem lab to reduce cough syrup to almost-pure pink/offwhite DXM powder. It's one hell of an awful drug.

Either something else in the cough syrup you took was toxic, or you have a metabolic problem (CPYD enzyme issues?)

I've used plenty of disassociatives since I've had tinnitus, they definitely don't do anything useful. @3ri0w may have more to say on that subject, I think he did ketamine infusions.

In any case, I prefer being able to piss voluntarily to having silence at this time.

First let me say - don't do it.

Second - seriously, don't do it. High dose DXM is not only unpleasant, it makes acid look like tic tacs.

Third - As I'm sure some idiot will run and try to Robotrip to see how it impacts tinnitus - it's very important that the ONLY DRUG IN THE BOTTLE is DXM. Most DXM containing pills / syrups are cocktails. Usually, among other things with questionable safety profiles, with Acetaminophen (Parecetamol to those on the other side of the pond) in HIGH doses. This can literally kill you or potentially put you on lifelong dialysis.

Lastly - But for real. Don't fucking do it.
