Should I Stop Taking My Thyroid Med (Levothyroxine)?

I've been eating healthy and lost 20 lbs. My ears have been so plugged up and and buzzing in my head. I went to the ER and checked my ears. They look ok, no wax buildup.

They want me to go get my thyroid levels checked. I can't make an appointment until Monday.

Should I still take my thyroid med? Could me losing weight and eating healthy cause me not to need my med?

Could taking my levothyroxine cause all this pressure and buzzing? Please I really need help.

I had assumed and answered in your other thread to see an endocrinologist. In the office the endocrinologist will probably do their own quick ultrasound scan. Many people have ongoing thyroid conditions and often there's no great urgency including with cogged/blocked feelings in ear with also having tinnitus. Complete blood work will be given and that can also be helpful. Included is a white cell blood count, thyroid panel, cholesterol panel and vitamin panel. You may just need management; some iodine, zinc, D3 or vitamin C.

@Greg Sacramento The doctor won't give me a referral to see an endocrinologist. He said they can take my blood instead of sending me to one. Will the doctor check for things like an endocrinologist William?

 

If your blood tests results comes back that includes thyroid testing and the levels are off, then the doctor will make a endocrinologist referral. White blood count for infection along with cholesterol and vitamin screening is included.

Let me know what the results are and then we can talk more.

 

I had an overactive thyroid (Grave’s disease) and Mayo Clinic Rochester gave me a small cup of radioactive iodine to knock it down. Now I have had to take levothyroxine for years for an underactive thyroid. What @Greg Sacramento said makes good sense. One step at a time.

 

Do you ever experience fleeting tinnitus? Where your hearing will randomly drop and you get a crazy spike with a new tone but everything goes back to normal after 10-20 seconds?

 

@Zeneth Yup I get that all the time. It's scary when it happens.

 

@Greg Sacramento My results came back. Mt thyroid levels are normal. My red cell count is a liitle high because he said I'm dehydrated. My LDL cholesterol is a little high too. It's suppose to be under 100 and mine is 110. He didn't give me any medication for it because I have been losing weight. And he's not worried about it.

 

Hi folks,

Recently been taking Levothyroxine 25mg. I don't know if it's the medication or if I am just subjectively noticing the tinnitus more anyway. But it seems as if the tinnitus frequency/loudness has increased.

Is/has anyone else on this medication noticed this?
