Hard to know with tinnitus being so marginalised.
Suicides in this case are always contributed to "something else going on in persons life" rather than tinnitus suffering.
This is also massively supppeted by "tinnitus sufferers" (noise level "need to look for it to hear it") who always find their opinion relevant to preach how tinnitus is a harmless sound!

Any suicide, where the victim (and criminal according to us law) had tinnitus. it is safe to assume that the tinnitus played a role in the suicide.

See they were probably alone, thinking, and probably hearing their tinnitus, and they were probably emotionally unwell, and hearing tinnitus while being emotionally unwell is a downward spiral spiral spiral.

Or maybe tinnitus prevents suicides, because people have to go tp the hardware store to get heavyduty earmuffs and go back home to do it. They might change their mind in that time.

Yes, it always amazes me how even Tinnitus sufferers are able to overlook the subjectivity of their own condition and approach certain cases with a "more must be going on because I have Tinnitus and I don't do that" rationale. That's a bold assumption you just cannot say anything about, as due to the subjectivity of the condition we cannot know how bad it is for another person. The Tinnitus alone MIGHT have been enough to send people over the edge, it also MIGHT not. We just cannot assume "more must have been going on" solely based on our own subjective condition and how we handle it. Until this day we still cannot measure Tinnitus objectively, and even if we could; what a person can handle differs from person to person.

Still, responses along that lines are usually among the first few comments of another horrible suicide story where Tinnitus might be heavily involved, which is saddening and kind of egocentric because it only bases your reasoning on your own experiences.

When you think about the fact that exposing "criminals" or interrogated individuals to a continuous high pitched sound was (and still is) an effective psychological torture device to get out of them what you need, I think we should never underestimate the potential severe and psychologically maddening impact Tinnitus can have for an individual. It might just be enough. Really enough. It doesn't always take much to break a person.

I would guess that probably somewhere between zero to five people per year kill themselves solely because of tinnitus. That's in stark contrast to the thousands that whine about suicide on this board.

Not many. Sadly many suicides are from those suffering from mental health problems.

Do you think saying "thousands" of people on this board "whine" is very tactful? Did snarky comments like that lead to your girlfriend slapping your ear?

I know of people who took their life, sadly to this affliction. It's horrible and tragic. I wish we had actual treatments which are licensed so we can prevent this to save lives.

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and wish everyone all the best. Best wishes Danny Boy.

I have no doubt that lots of people are seriously bothered by tinnitus. I was definitely bothered by it for the first 6 months or so.

All I was trying to say is that I highly doubt that people are killing themselves solely because of tinnitus. It seems to me much more likely that they are killing themselves because of other problems, like lacking fulfilling social connections, unable to hold down stable work, no family support structure...things like that. Maybe tinnitus exasperated the existing problems for people, but tinnitus CAN be controlled if the other things in the vicitims life are balanced and stable.

It's also quite frustrating to see people venting contantly about how they want to kill themselves because I wholeheartedly believe that even letting your brain consider something like that will severely slow down habitation. I genuinely want people on this forum to get better, because I really believe that everyone can overcome this with the right mindset.

My view is work is overrated anyway.:D A gift to not like to work. I never did.
I have always lived by this credo:
The Doors - Back Door Man (Lyrics)

I believe in a bifurcated world. There are worker bees and those that aren't.
Morrison probably would have developed tinnitus. He just never made it that far.

I appreciate the sentiment, but the mindset isn't going to do much for you if you have severe and intrusive tinnitus.
I'm sorry, but that line of thought is very similar to what we hear from our doctors who tell us to "just don't think about it", or "just get busy", because they think they know but... they have no idea what it means to live with intrusive T.
In their defense, it's actually extremely difficult to understand it if you don't experience it, but you would think they have enough contact with sufferers to be able to familiarize themselves with the level of distress and comorbidities that come along for the ride.
Personally, I do think that mild T can be certainly managed to a certain extent with the mind. That may actually be a reasonable definition of mild T: something that can actually be "minded away". But severe & intrusive, I think it's a different ball game. Lumping everyone together and using the "you probably don't have the right mindset" discourse is very distressing to severe sufferers actually, because it shows that there is no understanding of the situation, and without understanding there is no hope for action, relief, cure or even just empathy.
Consider yourself lucky if you do have the kind of T that can be managed with "the right mindset".

I have a forum in french for people with T & H. The 25th of december, one french guy killed himself, he can't bear anymore symptoms like headache, hyperacusis, tinnitus.
      He had hyperacusis noise induced.
