Are there any safe non-Penicillin antibiotics for a tooth infection?

Cleveland Clinic lists the following as commonly prescribed for it:
  • Cephalosporins: Common types dental providers prescribe include cephalexin.
  • Nitroimidazoles: Common types include metronidazole.
  • Macrolides: Common types include azithromycin and erythromycin.
  • Lincosamides: You may need a lincosamide, like clindamycin, if you have a stubborn tooth infection that hasn't responded to other antibiotics.
Less commonly prescribed antibiotics in dentistry include fluoroquinolones and tetracycline.
Looking around Tinnitus Talk, it seems like Clindamycin might be the safest option. I took Doxycycline early on in my Tinnitus journey, but I do not remember exactly if it made anything worse. I could maybe try that one again. I am not sure if I can take Cephalexin with my Penicillin allergy, although I did take a couple of doses of it in the past before having to switch to the stronger Doxycycline. I do not think I had any reaction to it.

Any thoughts?

Are you sure you are allergic to penicillin?

Did you experience a Type 1 or Type 4 reaction?

Have you undergone a Skin Prick Test to confirm the allergy? At what age did this occur?

Clindamycin is known for its potential to cause a Clostridium difficile (C. diff) infection, which may require treatment with Vancomycin. Unfortunately, Vancomycin is commonly associated with hearing loss.

My tinnitus was triggered by Azithromycin, so I can personally vouch for its ototoxic potential.
