      Hey everyone,

My tinnitus is new (about a week old) and in my left ear. Right ear feels clogged. Saw a Dr and they thought it was TMD/TMJ. I had hearing test and it came back normal. I cannot modulate sound by moving jaw but putting ice pack on the TMJ made it reduce drastically. Still not gone completely. Anyone else have experience like this? Am freaking out a bit.

      Thanks and good luck!

Do a search on my posts - your TMJ sounds a lot less severe than mine, but basically there are three areas to treat TMJ in general that also could relieve your T:

      1. Relieve the joint - bite plates, stop clenching, soft diet, in severe cases braces, etc
      2. Reduce pain/inflammation- ice, heat, drugs, physiotherapy, stretching/yoga
      3. Psychological - drugs (again), therapy/support, exercise, sleep

Flexeril + mirtazapine is what I take. It's safer and less addictive than a benzo or ambien type of med.

Flexeril to relax muscle and mirtazapine for sleep.

I know you mentioned TMJ, but may I ask if you have a history of over exposure to loud noise? Loud headphones, concerts, anything loud?

Hey there, it has not gone but it has quieted over the past 18 months. I was a drummer and while the initial onset of my symptoms came with TMJ issues I am damn near certain my T came from rock n roll. I do attribute some of my healing to nightly use of magnesiums and daily use of ginko biloba and curcumin. Also high doses of omega 3's and sporadic red light man lllt. Best of luck!

I believe facial nerves get irritated after the cochlear nerves are damaged, then everyone gets told they have TMJ when it's actually something else. No one bothers piecing the puzzle together.

I believe ETD and TMJ are mass misdiagnosis for cochlear damage.

Would damaged nerves affect the ability of the muscles - ie the masseter - and make them sore? I don't disagree but my jaw hurt quite bad during the onset of my T.
