It’s rising rapidly. This is what I wanted to see weeks ago! Has the tinnitus community all suddenly decided to sign it on the same day?

      Information about the grant:

I'm wondering if someone famous shared the petition or if someone created a lot of bots. :D Hoping these are all real signatures.

I don't think it has anything to do with that grant, its (potential) effects are seen later.

This is interesting though! I dug through Twitter using the search, and couldn't find anyone influential sharing the petition. I also looked through Facebook, what I could find, and could not find anyone influential sharing it either. Facebook is the more likely source though, on Twitter I would have found the source, but Facebook's search tool is kind of crappy.

What might have happened is that all those donations people gave to Change.org after signing the petition are only now starting to come into effect. A couple of weeks ago there were over 700 people who had donated what seemed to be an average of €15 or so.

As I've understood it, Change.org uses that money to promote the petition to other Change.org users and visitors.

Yea I agree, it’s highly unlikely. I only mentioned the grant as it’s part of their most recent news and I figured there could have been a promotional push of the petition in association with it or something (considering it’s about building for the future).

Whatever the reason is, it is a very significant change of gear that has occurred.

It is, and if you look at the "All reasons for signing" page, the frequency of new comments started increasing about 3 hours ago.

This blew up only a few hours ago.

The current stats are very favourable. If we were to imagine that the petition had only just started today then we would expect to see well in excess of 100,000 based on its current trajectory. The golden rule of 3,000 signatures in 10 hours would have been annihilated.

60,000 now. I wonder at what point they will take this petition to the health minister? It now seems that it will hit 100,000, hopefully, so could get discussed in parliament. I wonder if they will look at how many non Brits signed it or not.

I'm sure they're going to wait a while. Only today more than 700 people have already donated to Change.org to promote the petition. Altogether that number sites at over 1400 contributors as of now.

I think there's going to be another big wave of signatures from that money pot - after this wave fizzles out.

Overall this petition has easily raised more than €20K to promote the petition (FWIW, that's our annual budget many times over). BTA has succeeded very well with this one. (y)

This actually makes me want to donate more money now. This is great stuff. Let's hope the effort leads to a proper response from the government and some proper funding coming tinnitus' way.

Does anyone know if the number of views listed here is unique to the BTA’s link for the petition, or is this a complete overview of the views so far?

I’ve only recently seen these stats after clicking on the petition via the BTA’s website.

Health care is the number concern by far for Americans by polling that was just done. Issues about receiving proper care, costs, insurance approvals and to be able to see a doctor by choice who cares and has experience was mentioned in the New Hampshire primary by voters. Today these issues were also on the minds of Nevada voters. Tinnitus was one issue mentioned in New Hampshire. I received question and answer results per a candidate that spoke at a New Hampshire University. Tinnitus was also mentioned in Nevada, maybe because casinos are loud. There may be not much that can be done at this time for most with tinnitus from noise exposure, but with other physical injury and problems - there is.

Questions were asked by Franklin Pierse University students as part of the New Hampshire primary process through Politics FitzU, Pizza & Politics, the Franklin Pierce/Boston Herald/NBC10 polling partnership, and the Primary Mock Election livestream hosted by Franklin Pierce and NHPBS - Television. On 2/11, Bernie Sanders spoke about healthcare to a committee of four students where discussion included the lack of healthcare treating those with pulsatile and physical tinnitus where most cause is known. This is a noted problem for many of us with heard sounds - see my post #159 within this thread.

I don't know, I like fact, but could it be that Bernie has a little PT going on from heart vascular association? I'm an alumni of Pierce, but my degree from there were in Economics/Finance. I did do part of my biology studies there. Pierce has some of the best physical therapy and biology study courses.

I thought it was 100,000 signatures. The more people donate the better the chance of them getting more signatures.

It’s 100,000 for it to be debated in the House of Commons, but if you do some further reading, it appears that it you get above 250,000 (as this is closer to 1% of the population - which is 660,000) it is more likely to be taken seriously.

But yea, we only need 100,000 for a debate in the House of Commons to take place. I’d still recommend that everyone shares and signs the petition, though, as the higher the number we achieve, the better, and I’m not sure how they will factor in the percentage of foreign signatures we have.

One of the petitions I was involved with in the past that was successful received over 500,000 signatures.

All rise, as we are about to smash 100,000 signatures. This really is a historic moment, so if you have signed this, give yourself a huge pat on the back for contributing to something that has the potential to really help. Now that the first milestone has been met (will be met), let’s get to 300,000!

If all who had viewed through the BTA’s link had signed it, we’d have nearly 230,000 signatures now (that’s assuming they are unique views, of course). Food for thought.

How would we even go about a US based petition with the ATA on board or some other organization? How many signings would be needed for there to be an open debate on the matter? Which politicians should be reached out to?

I'd love for Americans to get some extra funding too.

I think there's a potential for misunderstanding what getting to 100,000 signatures actually means. Unfortunately, it doesn't provide any guarantee at all that there will be any extra government funding. It means that (probably) this petition will get some sort of parliamentary debate. Although looking at the average House of Commons debate sadly very few MPs normally turn up.

The government has no obligation at all to accept the results of any such debate. Looking at past debates based on petitions quite often there is no result - e.g., there was a petition recommending all retail shut down on Boxing Day - didn't happen.

On the whole the petition debates which seem to have most successful results are those asking for things to be banned - e.g., certain plastic objects. The petitions which seem to have least successful results are - unfortunately - those asking for more government money to be spent.

In pointing all this out I should stress that I am NOT saying that this petition is a complete waste of time. Just that I think we need to be realistic about the results.
